Should trading Hardy be considered?

Hardy as of now, has trade value. He is in his contract year and from the looks of things. Hardy is looking to get paid. He has already rejected an extension recently, so the question would be if Gettleman would pull the trigger? What kind of compensation can be had for a young pass rusher like Hardy? A first, second? A equal value player? I know pass rushers are valuable, but locking Hardy down to a ridiculously high contract may hinder this team more than help it. Right now the holes are on the offensive side of the ball. Pick your poison. Offensive line, wide receiver. The needs are there. Also, the looming Cam newton contract is closing in. Then there is the other players that have contributed that are in one year deals or contract years as well. LaFell, Ginn, Mitchell, etc. In all honesty the defensive side of the ball is in better shape. This is not a thread to diminish or belittle Hardy's skill set. Basically, the defensive line is really good, thanks to hardy contribution, but I do not believe the d line will suffer a loss so great that the line will cease to be efficient. In the end the betterment of the team has to be taken seriously, and that may mean that the Panthers front office may have to make the tough decision and get something out of a rising star in order to take the next step. If Gettleman does trade Hardy, I will miss the Kraken dearly, but I will understand the reason behind it.

Well, first off I don't recall seeing anything solid saying he turned down a contract offer.  Just heresay.  Second of all, if we could trade him for a first from a team likely picking in the top half of the round or for a player of equal value (very good young WR, or good young LT) then sure we should consider it.  I don't know too many teams that are gonna trade away their very good young WRs or good young LTs though.  The caliber of WR we'd need in return is a Dez Bryant.  Not saying something crazy like AJ Green or Julio Jones, but it would have to be an upper tier, young WR.

Hardy generated a lot of pressure, just couldn't quite get Cassel down.

Yea, on at least two plays that I remember off the top of my head Hardy was beating his man and his pressure allowed the lane used by another guy (Davis once, Mitchell once) to actually get the sack.  Hardy played well, good pressure.  Only shallow minded, or football ignorant, people think just because he didn't get a sack he didn't play well.

Speaking of that, the cowgirls DeMarcus Ware is apparently injured. Hardy for a pick or a stud WR, they have plenty of them, would be a great deal.

Hell, the Vikings might be a potential trade team.  Do they have their first this year?  Jared Allen's getting up there in age, I know they just resigned that one guy for an ok contract but their D-line could certainly use a Kraken.

For the record, I'd hate it if we lost him.  He's one of my three favorite Panthers, but tough decisions gotta be made.  Especially considering we're not out of the woods yet with the cap mess Hurney left.

    • Yes message boards will always include that sort of stuff… However, this place has been a cess pool since the team took Bryce Young over CJ Stroud. It becomes a problem when it is accepted and promoted, which it has been here (even by at least one mod). Many posters sole purpose on this board is to try to dunk on others for having different opinions. We just had one write a novella on how talking about Bryce Young’s game winning drives “needs to stop”…after a win. They don’t want real conversation. It “needs to stop”. There are many posters here who literally only show up after losses to dead thread and try to dunk on others about the QB (MRenshaw is an easy example). I really don’t see much of that happening the other way around. There’s too many people that would rather the team be bad so they can feel justified for constant doom and gloom and negative opinions. It’s been pointed out by many over the past couple years. This just isn’t a place to have football discussions anymore because of the constant hyperbole. If you don’t subscribe to “Bryce Young is the worst QB ever who can’t throw the ball further than 5 yards and is the reason why we lose any game we lose and doesn’t help in any game we win”, then you are labeled a Bryce Young Stan.
    • if you believe he is watching every NFL game.....every week.....go right ahead.  I get it, he said something you like.  But that's like believing the talking heads on the ESPN shows are watching all the games.  You think Stephen A is watching the Panthers every Sunday too?  If Stephen A needs to go on First Take he certainly can pretend like he has watched every snap any player on the roster has taken lol.   No one is that isn't a Panther fan has been watching the 9-25 career go down every Sunday.  Or even a lot of Sunday's.  You know who knows more about Bryce Young than Long? The collective huddle.  What they are reviewing is stat sheets, highlights and in summaries.  It's an old formula lol.
