Not surprised, he was mocked as a low  first round pick by quite a few people.  The fact that DT went from our biggest weakness, to potentially a duo that'll be here the next decade, is pretty amazing.  Star and Short complement each other well, but I do hope Dwan gets back so they can get a break without putting Fua out there.

I wanted him in the second regardless of what we did in the first.  I saw a mock that had us taking him, and everything

looked perfect.  When I saw some mocks having Star falling to us in the first, I still felt we were so bad at DT we

should take Short if he were there.

sometimes dreams do come true.

only problem is, both are playing so well when it comes time to sign them to a new contract, I'm afraid we

won't be able to afford it, 2 years after signing Cam, and 1 year after signing Luke.

Impossible to project that, that's 4 years away, at which point the huge running back contracts we have will be off the books.

I do believe the rotation really helps with his consistency...........

I think you are correct.

He WAS the flat at Purdue. Guy got worn down. Not to mention that Purdue's offense sucked and the D was always on the field.

These are big men...hard to move that much mass all game without rest. Good rotation and our offense being at the top of the league in TOP is huge.

I watched a lot if big 10 football last tear and saw the incredible potential of kk. He was just inconsistent. I am happy the panthers are getting that consistency out of him.

i noticed the same thing.

2 things going on...

too much weight

too many snaps

both were corrected.

one thing that has surprised me about both guys is how good they are in the things that were considered their weaknesses.

star was supposed to be great against the run (he is) but in pass rushing was a bit weaker (it's not, tho). kk was supposed to be great at getting to the passer (he is), but almost a liability against the run (he ain't, tho).

we have ourselves one great combo with a great complementary cast in cole and dwan (if dwan can get back on the field).

i love that with basically a blink of an eye we went from the interior of that DL being one of the weaker in the league to being one of the best.

in fact i live the turnaround on both sides of the ball over the years. 2010 we had one of the weakest offenses ever in the game to one of the best in 2011 (tho we're just now starting to get that back in that groove). in 2011 we went from being the worst D in the league to now one of the top three in the league.

i love it.

now the game day coaching is catching up to the talent and i've got to say i'm impressed.

    • If we don't go OT, we will regret it.  What bothers me?  Are we going to get a starting-caliber OT at 19?  I think the draft is solid at OT, and the more I read up and watch video, the more I watch Lomu, the more I want him.   I see Freeling as a RT who needs some work in run blocking (since we need to run first, maybe not a good fit) and I see Proctor ending up as a Guard.  After Lomu (assuming Mouigia and fanu are gone), I think we wait until round 2.  In round 2, there are about 3-4 I like (Zuhn--good pass blocker and VERY underrated right now; Tiernan is a very good pass blocker as is Miller from Clemson, but both are not good in the run game.  Max Ixxxxx from Ariz St is impressive too---technically, there is not a of difference in these second tier guys--good in pass pro, need work in the run game.   If we wait until round 2 for an OT, we probably need to sign Nijman and start him early.   I almost think this is what we should do if Lomu is gone.  There is a big dropoff after him, imo, and I think we'd get better value if a stud ILB or edge is there.  Someone like TJ Parker Clemson makes sense. If Lomu is gone, trading back might be the play.
    • And what is x gunna help with except show him what not to do. Plus for the first year and a half he was just an obstacle
    • I understand that some people want WR. I am solidly against using yet another high pick there. Coker is pretty good and we used No picks on him.  What I think we really need at WR is a little bit of a Smitty lite. It is ridiculous to say let’s get a Smitty because you just can’t do that, but someone not tall and long striding but more in his mold. I think we’d have a pretty well rounded group.    Looking at tackle, with replacing Moton looming, it just seems like the no brainer.  You fill in Icky short term. Depending on how he recovers, and how the new guy plays, you go from there. A tackle at 19 is most likely either a LOT, a ROT, or a big talented guard, at worst. We will need all three in the next couple of years.  I would love to have a stud ILB be there at 19 but the OL is the responsible thing to do I believe.
