What to make of Jonathan Martin...

Mr. Scot

sounds like martin is a gigantic pussy

And that's the reaction I expect most folks to have.

A professional offensive lineman with 'emotional problems'?

The trenches are a nasty place, not for the faint of heart.

I'm wondering though, how many would look at this and blame his teammates for being a--holes to him.

Martin leaves Dolphins to deal with emotional issues

Source: Teammates bullied Martin

This is as odd a story as I've seen in a long time.

So what's your read?

Not as odd as the Te'o story. Not even close.

But, as to what I think about it? I think it's a horrible situation. I'm not sure whether Martin has some emotional issues, the team has gone beyond the boundaries of hazing (into bullying), or both. Either way, the Dolphins have not handled this situation well at all, starting with their coach and going on down.

I played organized sports at varying levels. I went to college. I know the types of things that are said when a few guys are together, much less 70+, but there is a limit. Everyone has boundaries. I think some of the players have pushed those boundaries, and it went too far. I think that the coaching staff needs to step in when enough is enough, along with the captains of the team.

Also, I'd really like to have Martin as a back-up... so...

I remember thinking "in the NFL" but apparently I didn't type it out

I'll give you that the Te'o story was weirder.

Whether or not I'd want Martin here is something I'd definitely have to think about.  Probably need more info as to what really happened.

If it's Incognito leading the charge, then your last question seems somewhat valid.

I'm also kind of interested if anything like this registered on any teams psychological profile of him during the draft process and also if it was a factor in his draft stock dropping from top 15 to 2nd round

    • Oh I was.  But we still had great players.
    • You keep AT unless he WANTS to get traded to a contender during the season.  He's valuable, TET, XL, and Coker need to learn how to be PROFESSIONALS on game day, practice, and the off-season.  That's what you get from AT.  ADDITIONALLY, he is clutch.  He is steady.  At is that savvy vet who will always flash. I really think they keep 7 WR's if Brycen can operate on special teams.  Week 1 you may see us heavy on WR and OL because of the massive amount of injuries across the league.  Renfrow may even be cool starting on the PS since he lives close and wouldn't need to uproot his family.  You can still make nearly 400K as a vested veteran on an NFL practice squad.  You see more veterans hanging around since the age limit was lifted. I think the 1st 53 and PS looks like so...... Offense: (25) QB (2) Young / Dalton RB (3) Chuba/Rico/Etienee WR (7) T-Mac/XL/AT/Coaker/Renfrow/JHjr/Brycen TE (3) Tremble/Sanders/Evans OL (10) Icky/Lewis/Corbett/Hunt/Moten/Brady/Mayes/Yosh/Zavala/Kingston Defense: (25) DL: (6) Brown/Robinson/Turk/Bobby B/Cam Jackson/Sam Roberts OLB: (5) Wonnom/PJ2/NicSic/Princely/Incoon ILB: (5) Rozeboom/TW/Windmon/Cherelus/Bam CB: (5) Horn/MJ/CSW/Thorton/Evans S: (4) Tre'Mo/Ransom/Demani/Scott Specialists: (3) JJ/Fitz/Martin Last spot: Right now I have it as a toss up between DJ Johnson and Bam.  Until NicSic can come back we need an extra edge.  Do we utilize TW more as a blitzer from the middle to keep Bam safe?  I'm not worried about DJJ getting picked up from another team, a little more concerned with Bam. Practice Squad: DavidMoore/JamesMitchell/JacolbyGeorge/Tuttle/Crumdley/Ray/DJJohnson/Kantra/Carter/Blacksheer/ Wright/KrysBarnes/MichaelReid/Safety pick up/RB pick up/QB pick up
