Dolphins suspend Richie Incognito

What does it take to bully a grown man?

A pretty big man, mind you, and a professional athlete.  More than that, an offensive lineman who's made his living in the trenches, arguably the roughest place in professional sports.

What the hell happened in this story?

I've been wondering that since i heard it.

I mean I know some people are more fragile emotionally than others, and even the strongest people can be worn down by repeated teasing and mistreatment, even when it's small, but still...

See, I don't wanna go the route of calling Martin a pansy or something.  That said, I spent about ten years of my life in a football locker room, and that was only up through the high school level.  Even there, it was a pretty rough place.

If you're Martin, you're good enough and mentally tough enough to get to the NFL.  You've battled your way through every level to where you're one of the best in the world.  You're clearly not a pansy / wimp / whatever.  You've worked your whole life to get where you are, and now you're making more money than you ever did.

So what pushes that guy to the point he walks away from his million dollar job?

For the vast majority of the population, it doesn't take much if you have the right ammo.

If he beats the crap out of one of them then HE'S the problem. Fugged up situation...

Reports now saying that Incognito was using racist remarks and making plausible threats, not just generic 'kick your ass' type stuff.

Oy

Tony Dungy and Scott Pioli both talked last night about their respective team's having flagged Incognito as undraftable (Pioli wasn't high on Jonathan Martin either).

A while back someone started a thread on here that we should try and obtain Incognito because he "wasn't a choirboy" and "had a mean streak".

Apparently

    • What's wrong with Damien Lewis? He played pretty well last year.
    • Official NFL Cuts Tracker Deadline for roster cuts is Tuesday, August 26th. At this moment (Friday, August 22nd) the only interesting names I see are... K Caden Davis (BUF) RB Ameer Abdullah (SF) WR Equanimeous St. Brown (SF) WR Donovan Peoples-Jones (NO) LB Khaleke Hudson (TEN) Abdullah, St. Brown, Peoples-Jones I don't exactly think we should cut anybody for but it was just interesting seeing those names. Khaleke Hudson was on the Panthers' practice squad last year I believe and might have even gotten called up? And of course, Caden Davis just because of the question mark at kicker this season for the team.
    • I'll say 6/10. I don't know that we learned a whole lot about this team during preseason that we didn't already know. We didn't play the starters enough to really get a feel for what to expect. We had one good drive against the Browns, one 3-and-out and two 3-and-outs against the Texans. That's an extremely small sample size across 3 games regardless of performance. My camp/preseason takeaways: Jalen Coker might be the best WR on this team and is certainly no worse than #2. Nic Scourton is going to be a good player for us. Possibly very good. Bobby Brown was our best free agent addition. Jack Plummer isn't an NFL QB. Not even a practice squad guy. Having anyone other than Canales and Evero call plays was a really stupid and pointless idea. Our depth is largely non-existent, especially on defense. The three areas we actually DO have depth are on the OL, in the WR corp. and at RB. I can't fathom why Dan Morgan didn't do more to upgrade ILB during the offseason. We better hope Lathan Ransom steps up at FS because if he doesn't we have a massive hole. For all the hype surrounding Sanders/Evans, Tommy Tremble is still the best TE on the roster. I'm only slightly less enthusiastic going into the regular season than I was a month ago. I think our starters on offense are solid and we should be pretty good there unless Bryce totally regresses. On defense, we're probably bottom 3rd in the league if 100% healthy and significantly worse than that if injuries become an issue. We badly need at least two of our rookies to become high-level players early (ideally one of the pass rushers + Ransom) and at least 2 of our free agent additions (ideally Moehrig + Bobby Brown) to be significant upgrades over last year. Call me pessimistically optimistic 😆
