PG as #1 option = Mediocre Team

Groundbreaking news, i know.. but listen:

I love me some Kemba, i do- however as long as he is the "best player" or "1st option" to score on our team, we will never be a contender or let alone a playoff team.

The last PG to be the "best player" on their team and get their team to the Finals was Isaiah Thomas with the Pistons. Every other team since then, their leading scorer/play maker was someone other than the PG.

To ask you PG to bring it up the floor and create everything for your offense AND score +20 pts a game- and create his own shot at the end of games in clutch minutes.... it is just taxing and impossible to ask of a player for an entire season (including playoffs, but let's not get ahead of ourselves).

Derrick Rose has been the first MVP from the PG position in awhile and he couldn't even muscle his team to the Finals that year. in fact- his body had given out and he needed an entire season to recover. Hopefully Big Al coming in will help, but he is defintely not the long term answer.

The 2014 draft needs to be the draft that we find the SCORING/SHOOTER that this team has been missing forever SO Kemba can be at his best and not try to create everything on the offensive end.

Meh, yes and no IMO.

Rose/CP3 are both Top 5 players when at the top of their game and could win a title with the right team around them. CP3 has never had a good enough team, and Rose's Bulls ran into LBJ and a then healthy Wade. This year? I'd like a healthy Bulls team over the Heat maybe. Tony Parker was IMO the best player on the Spurs last year, especially during the playoffs, and came as close as humanly possible to winning a title before the Heat caught a little luck and made some plays.

Kemba however, isn't and never will be those guys. If he's the #1 or even #2 option on your team, chances are you're not winning a thing.

We have the worst luck in the draft. Anytime we are so bad that we are at the very top, it is a weak draft with not hardly anyone to chose from. (Getting screwed out of the #1 pick does 't help) Anytime there is going to be an awesome draft with difference makers and allstars at the top we play just well enough to miss out on them. If ever there was a year to tank it would be this year. Try for a top 4 pick. It is the only way we will ever get our superstar.

i think thats why we got jefferson. we need an inside/outside presence. Those without Superstars need to have many stars like the Pistons team that won the championship or like the Pacers/Grizzlies even though Paul George is getting close to Superstar status.

Kemba - Star

MKG - Future Star

Jefferson - Star

Hopefully we can draft one more Star next year and a combo of Taylor, Biz or Hendo could become a Star. Then we will truly be a good team.

I like Kemba a lot and fully believe that he can be your 3rd best player on a championship team, possibly even 2nd best player if you have the right talent around him (kinda like Rose in Chicago -- defensive players everywhere, spot up shooters, rebounders, etc). This team just really needs a Wiggins, Parker, or Randle imo. Any of those three would be amazing here. Wiggins with his unlimited potential and super athleticism, Parker with his Melo/Pierce type of game, or Randle with his dominant inside presence. One can dream...

i think that any upgrade we get for kemba sacrifices real progress at another position.   we can't just go out and upgrade him.

do you think we could get a better point guard tomorrow?  or even through free agency or a trade?

we'd have to give up what we could invest in another position to do this, and for that reason, yes, kemba is the future.

i'm definitely not saying kemba is iverson

While Kemba isn't as good as Iverson they have an insanely similar play style imo.

The biggest thing this team is missing to help optimize Kemba is a sharpshooting sg to space the floor. We have the low post presence(Al offense and Biz defense) the stretch 4(Zeller potentially) and the slasher/defender/secondary ballhandler(im very high on mkg) we just need to ditch hendo(sixth man I'll tolerate him starting with the rest of our teams makeup not so much) and get someone who can shoot. I would love Klay Thompson but I don't see the warriors letting him go.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
