I hope G-man leaves Nicks alone

top dawg

I have been waiting for Nicks to show that he is a worthy big money receiver all season, but he hasn't. I have read commentary talking about his lack of ability to get separation anymore, and of course his drops. I wanted to give him the benefit of plenty of doubt, but after seeing the first nine games of the season---an adequate sample during a year where a lloming new contract should be providing plenty of motivation---I am highly skeptical that he can ever be a consistent impact WR, much less our WR1.  His play is not worth the money that will need to be paid, or the sacrifices that will have to be made in order to acquire his services.

Our receiving corp needs a lot of help - we would need to spend a large sum of money to a proven consistent big time receiver in FA to solve our problems (dropsies).

It'd just be easier and a safer bet to find a kid in the draft. Besides GM has done well from the draft thus far.

Free agent receivers make me nervous. They have a tendency to not live up to the hype when they get to their second team.

Much rather look at OL in free agency and use a high draft pick on a receiver.

Actually I'd like for us to double dip like we did on DT. I believe that we could possibly even get a playmaker in the third if G-man lives up to his expectations.  But I want two in the first two, or two out of three.

I can't say that all these kids would necessarily be coming out, but I kinda like Jalen Strong of Arizona State, Brandon Coleman of Rutgers and Jordan Matthews of Vanderbilt.

I'm OK with bringing him in to be a #2 on a cheapish/reasonable contract. He'd be an upgrade over LaFell but I don't consider him a #1 WR.

I don't think anyone will be running to pay him big bucks TBH but you never know, some teams go full retard when it comes to FA.

Move up in draft by giving up our 1st & 2nd for Watkins or Evans. No I'm not kidding. Also if Ebron falls to us at 32 then snag him. :)

I'm thinking trade a 1st and 3rd to move up and get Watkins (if that opportunity exists at least) and get an OT in the 2nd. Sign a legit #2 TE in free agency. Re-sign Ginn and Wharton, get Silatolu back at guard. Should be good to go.

    • Gronk is the best TE of all time, but he also played with Brady. Clarke was great, but had Peyton and in an era TE's didn't make crazy money. Kittle is great, but the two times he's made the SB, he was still on his rookie contract for one, and the other the 49ers had Purdy on a cheap rookie deal which help them build the rest of the roster. So again, it's not about not wanting an elite TE, of course it would be nice.  But realistically, in today's NFL, unless that elite TE with a top end TE salary is on a team with a GOAT level QB and/or other serious cap savings (i.e. key players on rookie deals), then I think it's not a good use of cap space.
    • This place was the poo pre tepper with tons of hilarious posters like phillyB. Joined in the 2000s during the 07 season and have been here bitching about this team since. but yeah its sadly been dying a slow death, every time I come to this site I am surprised its still up. I think the 2015 season was the absolute peak, the Panthers and this board especially just haven't "felt" the same since then. Igo should really sell the board since he clearly doesn't care anymore. Also, Reddit blows and the Bryce defenders on there need Jesus.
    • Guessing the price is too rich here given the injury history.  2024 was brutal and production dropped off in 2025 with a few more injuries (albeit rough qb play).    Don’t really understand the narrative that Young can’t benefit from talented upgrades on offense. Especially here with respect to a tight end. Any QB will benefit from talented receivers that threaten the top of coverage and tight ends with skills to stress zone.    The age and injury history, coupled with what he’s likely asking, just probably means we can better spend that money elsewhere.
