Godfrey has no place on team next year....

Our front seven is playing lights out, but the secondary is making plays.  Other than Cap's missed INT yesterday, we have been making all sorts of plays in the secondary too.  Godfrey never made plays ever.  If it wasn't an obvious over throw with no pop right into his hands, he didn't make interceptions.  He made some tackles on run blitzes and did his hand thing thats it.  Mitchell did miss a tackle on Gore and so did Keuchly, but the difference is both of them are playmakers.  It is not the norm for them to fudge up.  It was the norm for Godfrey to get caught looking in the backfield or take a bad angle on deep balls plain and simple.

You only have to ask yourself one question, do we need to pay somebody Godfrey's salary to do what Mitchell's doing in the secondary, even if Mitchell is no better? Nope. Then cut him

The only time I want the panthers to be paying that kind of money for a safety is if it's for some roving Troy Polamalu circa 2005 type player. Not some easily exploitable void in the secondary that Godfrey has always been with an average pass rush.

 

The thing I don't know yet is how much Mitchell will cost to re-sign and how much Godfrey would cost to cut. Then you have the question on how well and how quickly will Godfrey be able to come back from his injury.

Move Godfrey back to his natural cornerback position and let him man up. Drop Josh Norman and we are square.

If godfrey can still play corner at a high level then im all for it. If not, he's just a waste of money

The bad news is that an Achilles tear is one of the more catastrophic injuries for nfl players, and Godfrey's cap hit really starts going up in the next year.

I have faith in Gettleman that he won't overpay Mitchell if that's what he's asking for at the end of the year, and worst case scenario we pick up some cheap replacement production like Kerry Rhodes.

Maybe we are discussing different players because Godfrey was always missing tackles. He was near the top of the league in missed tackles for all safeties in 2011 and 2012.

 

I could see that by just watching the game and not even checking stats.  These dudes talking about maybe I am getting Godfrey confused with someone else.  He was terrible.

And somehow you managed to misinterpret the entire post if you think that is what I was trying to do.  I said the only interceptions that he got were ones that were thrown right to him.  Yesterday Cap made a play on the ball and dropped an interception.  I have never ever seen Godfrey jump a route in his entire pathetic career.  As evidenced by your screen name you enjoy holding on to mediocre players too long so I get that you don't understand.

Godfrey is one of those guys that looks good when he shows up on highlight reel plays with an easy pick or a big hit, but not so good if you actually watch him for an entire game.

I won't be especially upset if he isn't back.

what blown coverages, and what bad angle are you referring too.........the same "blown coverage" Rivera personally said was Thomas fault? Like i stated previously we were top ten last year with him starting next to that bum nakamura, i'm not use to him i just don't get this hatred for him when half of whats being said isn't true, i think you guys are getting him confused with other players i can't recall too many plays where godfrey has just fugged up in recent years.

 

I've already discussed his contract, but it's as simple as this we were top 10 with him last year and this was before a improved luke,Star,Short, and Cb play at the moment.........you guys are forget full all last season norman and nakamura side of the field was getting abused like porn stars

 

Saying I can't recall implies that you are unsure.  Can you recall all of the plays that he has made or maybe you and Delhommey can get together and discuss amongst yourselves cause I've got time.  We were top ten last year with Fua and Thomas Keiser playing, so stop using that argument.  Our secondary has looked worlds better this year without Godfrey.  Just look at the stats from the first two weeks on since you keep throwing out top ten.  This year without Godfrey we are top two!

if you go look at every big play teams had against us in 2011 and 2012 they were solely cause by Martin,Nakamura,Beason, and last but not least Norman not this soooooooo terrible Godfrey, dude was never terrible has been solid his career here IMO. Before the guys we have now he's been the only bright spot besides gamble and munnerlyn.

I am glad that we are winning and that our new GM is axing some of these bum ass players that so many in our fan base have so fully embraced.  I just hope that this trend continues with the jettison of one Charles Godfrey at season's end.  You keep saying that maybe I am talking about someone else and that Godfrey did so much.  The proof is in the pudding, because our Godfreyless secondary is playing lights out.  I bid yooooou good day!

Only someone who does not watch games would think Godfrey was playing well this season...it wasnt god awful...but that is how low of a bar he has set with my expectations.
