No one will care about that flag in 6 days

Any favorite non-call conspiracy theories yet? I heard some gems on the radio call-in shows.

1. The refs were afraid of the wrath of Panther nation for making a call that would have appeared to go in Brady's favor, knowing the general favoritism he receives. So they reverses the call. And went through this doomsday scenario in their heads, came to a consensus, and made the call, all in less than 15 seconds.

2. The refs were just tired and wanted the game to end and be over with. And that was the host! That's why you've got the midnight to 4 am show, Socrates.

3. Not a non-call conspiracy, but the magic bullet theories of how Gronk would stopped his momentum, turned around, and out fought Lester for the ball, when the ball was already in his grasp.

You see it so many times the other way, where an obvious call is missed and no flag is thrown.  They can't (or don't) huddle up and then drop a flag later for PI.  But at least because the flag was thrown, they had a conference.

I'll take it all day!

Well, of course it wasn't catchable.  Kuechly interfered. :)

We got lucky.

Not really.

I've rewatched the play a dozen times.  Gronkowski had already run behind Lester,  Brady's throw was short and Lester was in the perfect spot.  No matter what Luke does on that play, that final pass is an interception or a knockdown.

The no-call was correct.

It's really not about correct or incorrect.  We still got very lucky.  I mean, the flag was already on the floor for peaks sake.  With our usual luck, I thought for sure we were doomed.

It's not "lucky" if it's the right call.

If Gronkowski had actually put in some effort on that play, the call may have been different.  It was ruled uncatchable because (for whatever reason) Gronk didn't bother fighting for position.  Either way, what Keek did was unnecessary and it could have cost us.  They need to teach him to look for the damn ball and trust the coverage.

That's a lot of qualifiers.

"If he did so and so"...except he didn't.  he would have had to fight pretty hard to get to the underthrown pass and he wasn't in good position to do so.  lester, on the other hand, was in the perfect position.

But let's say Gronkowski had tried to come back.  Watch the play again and you'll see that about a yard away from him to his right was Mike Mitchell, and he was in a good position to strongly contest Gronkowski for the ball.

Bottom Line: There is pretty much zero chance of that play ending in a catch.

It is BEYOND ABSURD that this is even a controversy.

Look at this: http://d3j5vwomefv46c.cloudfront.net/photos/large/822649387.gif?1384835770

Look when Gronkowski tries to come back toward the ball to try to catch it. That is the point when Luke holds him. By this time, Lester had already jumped the route and was going to make a play on it beyond any doubt.

Gronk had no chance to catch that thing, even if Luke never touched him. This is only a controversy because of people's knee-jerk reactions.

Bottom Line you don't Do something like that on a game winning/losing play.......PERIOD! That was a bad play by luke, good call by the refs ultimately

Agree completely, it was an extremely stupid play by Luke. My point is that the call was clearly good, whatever Luke did notwithstanding. I'm sure he knows what a poor choice that was, and I'm equally sure that the coaches will drill it into his head this week.
