Has Stewart killed our running game?

Misleading.

Williams has gotten more carries and opportunities to break free. Consider this, had D-Will been stopped by 49er defenders in that 27 yard run his YPC would have been in the 2.7-2.9 region.

Well, the whole point is that he did run 27 yds for a TD. No if's, and's, or but's about it. There's nothing misleading about it.

You can't start 'taking away' possessions and yards gained just to make a point. lol you would've failed debate club for sure lol.

We have 3 studly RB's, each with their own style. And we are going to continue running up the middle hitting the D in the gut with all 3. You can't look at each play as a separate item and make any judgments. If you know anything about football, you just can't. We're wearing out the D, even when they use 8-9 in the box, and setting them up for play calling later in the game. Why do you think the 49er's bit so hard on the fake to the right with D'Angelo running left? Haha, we had set them up all game long. Why do you think Olsen was so wide open in the end zone? Again, we had set up that D to fail.

Which is exactly why Kuechly was DROY and has a good shot at DPOY. He's too smart and doesn't bite.

Don't be hatin' on DWill just because Stewart was out. Of course he has more carries, 8 games worth. We're not the Cowboys or Giants. There's nothing but support between our RB's and we should be glad of that.

That's my question right now. Before Stewart came back off of the PUP list. Our running game was doing pretty good with Dwill and Tolbert. But since Stewart has come back. Our run game has gone down hill in recent weeks. Tolbert is seeing very few touches. While Dwill has gotten a good deal of carries. Since Stewart has come back. He has split carries with Tolbert. I just feel since Tolbert has seen a lot less carries since Stewart come back. Our running game has suffered. I love Stewart and all. But this team was doing better when Dwill and Tolbert was getting most if not all the carries before Stewart came back. My question to people has Stewart coming back cause this team running to suffer in recent weeks or is it the play calling and the oline?

Since JStew's return, we have also played better teams.  And the banged-up O-line doesn't help.  JStew isn't the problem, far from it.

Williams can't run without a hole. That's the problem. Honestly, it's not his fault but I can't fathom why Shula won't slash D-Will's snaps in favor of Tolbert and Stewart. Big Willy just isn't getting it done against a stacked box and this crappy o-line.

I don't know why Shula doesn't retool the way we use D-Will. He operates so much better with space. A short dump off could do wonders.

I disagree with the first part, but i do think if teams are stacking the box stewart should get the majority of the carries. D will plays a big role still, especially with the occasional option plays we run IMO i don't think he needs holes to run through in order to be effective, i just think he realize he's not what he use to be and doesn't try to do too much

D-Will is vital to our run game. I won't disagree with that. Although Stewart has the superior hands, I want Williams hauling in short passes and dump offs in order to burn defenses. It's the only way to counter these overaggressive schemes cuz I don't see D-Will breaking a long one every week in a traditional formation.

D-Will of recent times has been too damn patient. I comprehend that he's not built like J-Stew and Tolbert but he's gotta make up his mind faster.

agreed i just don't want this to be another he had one bad game thread,Our Rbs are fine,if anything each of them should being trying harder to make the most of every carry.

Honestly, it's because Chris Scott has gone down. Sure, Nate Chandler has done a serviceable job, but this isn't what he is trained to do in the NFL. Addressing the issues on the offensive line should be very, very high on the offseason priority list.

Since we're playing this game, did you realize that in the same game, if you take Stewart's best run away that he has a virtually identical ypc.  Nevertheless, the fact is that you can't cherry pick what you're going to count and what you will ignore just to try and win a point.  All you can do is take what the players actually did, and no matter how you slice it, D-will did have that 27 yard run.

D Will has had a huge drop off in recent weeks. He is back to his old self dropping the second he even senses contact. The only way Stew is hurting our running game is because hes actually not getting more carries than D Will. Its no coincidence when D Will gets the ball he constantly struggles to get past the line of scrimmage while J Stew fights for atleast 3-5 yds. I hate to say it, but D Will has been failing the eye test in recent weeks

How can a single person have so many bad sports opinions???

Except, that's precisely the issue. Having one great run after struggling to gain a yard or two for most of game still doesn't dignify it. What? Did Adrian Peterson all the sudden have a good game against us just because he rushed for 61 yards on a 6.1 YPC average? Nope.

D-Will is very much having an average season despite possessing a 4.1 YPC average. In my opinion, Stewart and Tolbert deserve Williams' snaps. We'll be better off in the long run.

And again if Tolbert and Stewart were getting "consistently 4 YPC" their YPC would be higher since they have fewer carries. How can a RB have only a few carries, supposedly gets 4 yards every time, yet their YPC is only 3 and a half yards?

They aren't doing better than Williams.

You're also taking away runs in order to justify your position. If you took away Stewart's and Tolbert's longest runs, their YPC would go down too.

yep, he's gotten a whole 1 more carry than J-stew since Stewart returned.

Williams 27 carries for 102 yards= 3.8 ypc

Stewart  26 carries for 94 yards  = 3.6 ypc

So no matter how you stack it, they have performed almost identically.  Each have had decent runs, and each have also been stuffed quite a bit.  The common denominator is not the backs, it's their protection.

Yea there really is just not enough opportunities with 3 running backs + cam it's hard to get every one a good amount of carries especially when we only got 6 possessions (not counting the one to end the half) vs the pats.  Stewart really needs to get traded or DeAngelo needs to be released, IMO I always thought Stewart was the more talented of the too he should be getting 15+ carries a game

Numbers and stats only tell so much. If you watch the game tape Stew has alot more burst and power to get thru the first line of defense. D will seems to have lost a gear of speed he isnt good at getting thru defenders. From all the games I've watched D will just runs side to side with the occasional big run if he gets open space.

Problem is D will isnt going to get many big runs with the current O line. They arent opening the holes they did back in 2008 so in this current OL Stew will be the more consistent RB since he smashes thru defenders.

Pay attention to their running style. Game tape is what really matters. Numbers are deceptive depending on how you tell them
