Ranking the Panthers Most Effective Runners

Stewart has the superior hands. It's not close.

Here's the problem, how many long runs has he actually had all season now that defenses are stacking the box? Not many. I rather have Stewart and Tolbert taking the first two downs rather Williams.

What are you judging this off of?  Had Deangelo been dropping a lot of balls that I haven't seen?  I have seen him grab some horribly thrown screen passes but haven't see him drop any.   Is this based off of something I have missed?

Start Mike Tolbert. Ya I said it. We have one of the worst offensive lines in the running game and every time the man gets the ball he is making things happen regardless if there is a hole or not.

The man is the cheapest running back on our team and is proving to the other rbs that he is better than them.

The mere fact that we can send Stewart 20 yards down the field like a WR and he can haul in those passes -- that's what makes me confident in J-Stew's hands over D-Will's.

Once again what are you basing this off?  Has Stewart been running some 20 yard down the field patterns?  Has Dwill?  Or is this your gut feeling.  I am not saying you are wrong but you keep saying stuff like "mere fact" ,"no doubt"   and  "hands down" etc but I don't see how you are coming up with it.

I have wondered about this.

Then explain to me why he gets more targets than D-Will. What, coincidence? Please.

Tolbert, Stewart, Williams should be the depth chart.....OL play and power run scheme make it so.

Not sure why we are doing the complete opposite

Well, haven't you been watching this duo for years now? I mean, we could try to find countless clips on YouTube to prove a point but I assume we have better memories. Back when we drafted Stewart we acknowledged (not here; various other Panther sites) that while we didn't need another RB, Williams didn't possess the versatility that Stewart offered.

They are not used as down field passers.  They both catch screens/dump offs and checkdowns and turn them into long gains.  Deangelo was not noted for his hands coming out.  That has nothing to do with current Deangelo.  Watch games "recently" Deangelo has caught pretty much every catchable ball that has been thrown his way.   I remember maybe 1 wheel route Stewart ran 3 years ago.  That's it.  It's short dump offs which I don't see Stewart being so dramatically better than Dwill.

Using recent history especially at the end of last year, Dwill took 2 short passes/screens to the house from 50+ yards out.  I haven't seen him drop a catchable ball from Cam on the screens and some of those passes are "shaky" at best.   If there was a passing drill Stewart could possibly be a better receiver than Dwill, however in games I haven't seen any indication one way or the other.  Your post make it seem like it's blatantly obvious which I don't see how you can come up with that.

    • Apparently the extension he signed before the season was also a little weird, as it had a very low signing bonus. So the Jets have a very small dead cap hit despite trading a big contract that was signed just 2 months ago. I guess it was only a $13 million signing bonus, and trading him mid-season means it's something around only a $10 million dead cap hit left to take. This is a huge win for the Jets for a player I've long felt was overrated because of a great nickname and an amazing rookie season that he's then failed to fully live up to since them.  Combine that with everyone knowing the Colts seem more mirage then legit long term contender, that 2027 1st in particular could end up being a really good asset for the Jets.
    • Steichen has the offense operating at a super high efficiency with JT/Pittman/Warren/Downs.  The OL is strong. The D - the front 7 has been sneaky good.  They don't instill much fear but do enough.  Buckner is stil playing at a high level.  It's a good system on both sides of the ball.  Blue chip players now at every position group.   Overall, the NFL is wide open right now. Seahawks, Colts, Patriots, Rams, & Bills are at the top of the mid-season hill - which is just wild Lions, Bucs, Broncos, Chargers* are in contention/okay spots (LAC is losing guys left and right though) Chiefs, Philly still linger, you can never discount. Steelers, 49ers are around as always.
