ESPN Insider hit piece: Panthers aren't playoff contenders. Need someone with ESPN Insider.

This statement just lacks logic. So since we beat the 49ers and Pats and they have a worse record than ours, are they not playoff contenders either? So since New Orleans has the same record as us, are they not contenders either? Im not saying all this to bash, I cant bash this simply because it makes 0 sense whatsoever. So who are playoff contenders then?! Does winning not even matter anymore?! So if a 8-8 team has this kind of playing style the author is looking for, are they contendrs but the 9-3 team isnt?!

Frankly, just typing this is making my head hurt.

Good thing we are playing a team that is a couple of questionable calls, dropped passes, or missed field goals away from being 5-7 instead of 9-3 with losses to.Tampa and ATL twice.

ATL had a dropped TD in week 1. Tampa missed a field goal. ATL had them on the ropes again. And San Fran had a questionable call against them.

New Orleans may be the biggest paper tiger of them all.

he uses a lot of zany metrics that may or may not have any merit but the heart of his argument is pretty sound. the panthers offense doesn't have any dominating players outside of cam, kalil, and gross. they're maxing out the talent of the team and it will catch up with them eventually.

Agree.

We are not as explosive, but we are now methodical. And I don't think this is on accident.

Generally Speaking: Methodical means 1st downs, 1st downs mean time of possession, time of possession helps the defense.

This is why good teams usually have either an explosive offense + decent defense or Methodical/effective offense + dominant defense. Hardly ever seen Explosive Offense + dominant defense. It so hard to stop teams from scoring points when they get so many possessions.

If anyone thinks Cam and the offense don't deserve a little credit for our #1 defense, then you don't know much.

I agree completely. I dont think shula has implemented the dink and dunk offense necessarily to overcome shortcomings of our offense but more so for TOP.

the thing is, this offense has shown the potential for explosive plays many times, but it is predicated on slow, time-consuming drives.

I do think if we get down big vs a good opponent, we will have trouble making a comeback.

If the text posted is the full text, Joyner puts too much emphasis on Cam, and not enough on the style of offense being played and the talent surrounding him, imo.

This is the same stunt those who work for ESPN and their friends in the sports media have doing since Cam was at Auburn. It does seem as if this young man's exceptional talent ERKS them; so they now going to reach for any stat where he's not strong and use it to make their argument. I guess when Cam starts bombing down the center and those stats improve, there will be another area of fake concern. SMH  IMO, the attitude towards Cam by the Mainstream Sport Media, is immature at best and downrigh ignorant at worst.

I said it before and I will say it again, if Luck had Cam's real talent and helping the Panthers with this winning streak, the media would be say...Peyton Manning WHO?! It's clear those who run ESPN/NFLN will not rest until they succeed on getting Cam out of the NFL early so they can say....SEE HE WAS A BUST...WE WERE RIGHT. It seems they simply refuse to leave this kid alone.

Also, in my observation, the Panthers winning streak at first, wasn't being taken seriously by many in the Sports world. Now it seems to be getting under their skin and they are going out of their way to tear down the team. Yes, Cam isn't perfect but neither is any of the other QBs. And the Panthers isn't as solid of a team as the SeaHawks BUT, if it's their destiny to be in the Play-offs or further, they will be there.

    • Saw this show up in my new feed. Nice to see a couple of our rookies making it into the top 5 so far, even if it is a pff measure... From https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-top-15-rookies-week-9-2025 ... 4. TE Mitchell Evans, Carolina Panthers (78.7) Evans struggled in the Panthers’ tight win over the Packers, finishing with a 41.8 PFF overall grade — third worst among tight ends this week. He was not targeted in the game and played only one snap in pass protection. He did log 15 run-blocking snaps, and although he earned a 68.9 PFF run-blocking grade in zone looks (seven snaps), his 39.0 mark in gap schemes (second worst for the week) dragged him down to a 46.6 PFF run-blocking grade overall — sixth worst for the week. Despite seeing zero targets over his past two games, Evans still leads the Carolina tight end group with a 74.3 PFF receiving grade. He has caught all nine of his targets for 90 yards, six first downs and two touchdowns. Evans also leads the Panthers’ tight end group in PFF run-blocking grade (72.2). He has recorded a 20.5% positive play rate across 175 snaps.  5. WR Tetairoa McMillan, Carolina Panthers (78.6) McMillan had a better day against the Packers, recording four catches for 46 yards. Most of that production came in the first quarter via two 16-yard catches — one of which he snatched from Carrington Valentine’s hands, who was in perfect position to break up the pass. McMillan accounted for three first downs on the day, although Green Bay was able to limit his impact after the catch, holding him to 0.8 yards after the catch per reception. McMillan now has 41 catches for 558 yards — a top-15 mark. He is also tied for second with 19 explosive gains of 15-plus yards. Three of McMillan’s catches against the Packers came between the numbers, bringing him to 22 for 318 yards and 19 first downs (tied for second most) this season. He owns a 26.1% threat rate and a 76.6 PFF receiving grade between the numbers. He also ranks in the top 10 in explosive gains (10) and yards after the catch per reception (5.5) within that area of the field.
    • At least we don't need to hear overreacting about towels ...
    • Actually there is, try being a Charlotte Hornets fan. I mean the team fuging moved at its peak and hasn't recovered since and that was 25 years ago
