ESPN's First Take on Newton

My former brother in law was the same person to everyone he met. About half of those people thought he was a great guy. The other half believed he was the biggest a--hole on the planet.

You kinda had to know him to really get him, and some folks didn't care to look any deeper than the surface. That's just how people are.

Some people have personalities like that: easy to like, but also very capable - usually without meaning to - of rubbing people the wrong way.

I've said for a while I think Cam is one of those people. Smitty probably is too, but for different reasons.

Bottom Line: Big fat hairy deal. As long as his teammates like him, I don't really care who else does or doesn't.

I think because he clearly has fun out there and looks like the typical high school jock to some people they concoct their own weird conclusions on his character. And if you know him through mostly ESPN you've seen more mopey faced press conferences than charity work with children.

We'll be hearing about his "maturity" and "fundamentals" until a Super Bowl win and maybe still after.

Why do you agree?

because Cam is a young QB, and he has gotten better each year, so he is maturing. But they have the "sophomore slump" angle to say maturing from a negative point of view. Where as Wilson is getting better, but if the Panthers had won a a few more games last year, there would be no 2nd year slump, so they would use some other reason to be negative. (even though they were mostly positive in the clip)

I'm too young to remember. Did the media/fans hate Deion Sanders when he was dancing and wearing doo rags? As a child I loved Deion and I bet Cam did to. You see the same showmanship. The same child like excitement. Some people are in a box and anything outside the box irritates them to no end.

Nope. The media adored Neon Deion.

Great Jamaican rum, will people quit pulling out the damn race card every time someone says something bad about Newton.  This is the 80000th time this week.  No one says anything about Kaepernick and his arm kissing thing, nor did anyone give a poo about Lights Out, the Dirty Bird, the Icky Shuffle or any of the other millions of dances people do and have been doing for years.  Calling someone racist because they think Wilson is better than Cam is fuggin idiotic and laughable.

The media does not like Cam.  It's not a race thing.  It's a Cam is a god amongst men, hit the damn genetic jackpot, jealousy thing.  He's 6'5", young, rich, athletic, damn good looking, and is now on the verge of being successful at the highest stage.  There will be a ton of googly eyed, adoring fans, as well as an equal number of venom spitting, jealous douches.  Using the race card just makes your argument look weak.

You obviously miss the point when the only time people have called an analyist/personality racist is when they selectively target Newton's celeberation while forgetting Tom Brady's spike and Aaron Rodgers Discount Double Check. That is the only time race card is pulled and rightfully so, and shame on you for telling people what they shouldn't be offended by when it is a legitimate gripe. Am I saying they are Confederate flag totting racist? No. I'm saying when you have selective memory and the only celebration you gripe about is the one the black kid is doing, I'm fuging calling you out. Explain yourself why Cam's celebration isn't cool while Tom Brady's and Aaron Rodgers is, vocalize it.

I pointed out other celebrations that aren't targeted, both current and past, by non-white athletes. Others have added more. What about Ray Ray's game opening dance? No one ever said poo.

My point is that there are plenty of dances and celebrations by athletes white and not that are not targeted, therefore this is not a race thing. The media targets Cam, not his skin.

This is not the only recent post that pointed out race. I've read several this week where people are complaining about media being racist against cam, including a comparison of young QBs, where the only one on the entire damn list who was white was Luck.

It's funny how we're trained and YES I said TRAINED, to see these NFL players. It's ovbious that when it comes to Cam, it's not what he's really doing. It's what those in the media train folks to believe he's doing.

During the daft, we were trained to see Cam as a QB who shouldn't "be trusted" based on stories that has yet to be proven. His first season was met with him having to prove himself...He did...The next season, he was in some imaginary slump, despite the team playing better than the season before and his stats not far from the first season. He was also labeled as "immature" because him sits on the side-line with a towel on his head, I guess, that bothers the elite snobs in today's sports media. I also guess, unlike the other young and older QBs, Cam hating to lose is a problem with his attitude and maturity level. Now we're in season three and the Panthers, a team they couldn't give a rats ass about, is playing quite well; so now they have to find some way to pretending to like Cam, as they continue to push their agenda of doing all they can to destroy this young man so he will be out of the NFL. Especially since their chosen QB from the class of 2011 is already a certified BUST. I honestly believe if Cam took the Panthers to the SB and win, they will try and spin that into another already script BS about him not showing he's all that great.

And, I said it before and I will say it again...i find it very disturbing that 99.9% of those in the media who are tear down Cam or fake liking him, are white. Even more disturbing is watching the black ex-players turn Analyst, either pretend to go along with the BS or sit there squirming as they are forced to play along with the immaturity. I guess their paychecks matter more to them than their integrity and conscience. You can clearly tell the orders on how to treat these players are coming from within the media organization and those folks in front of the cameras are simply reading their scripts and playing their role.
