Any IT people on here?

We're having some issues with our excel files.  I'm an accountant and it's year end and it's very fraustrating.

We employe many large excel worksheets for calculating large amounts of data. Many of these worksheets are linked to each other. We tried to refresh our links and recalculate the worksheets but they constantly freeze up and/or crash. Sometimes it takes over an hour to recalculate a file that only took 30 seconds a months ago. We think it might have to do with the fact that our IT department compressed our drive. Can compressing the drive cause major excel issues? And how should I go about fixing it?

There is not likely an easy fix.

If you dont have backups from before the "slowdown" the only real fix (100% sure fire) will be to recreate the files in new spreadsheets.

Whats "large"?

Let's say 12 tabs. 45 rows by 45 columns in each tab and linked to other similar files. Probably total of around 60 excel files but not all connected to one another. I'd say 12mb of data per worksheet max. Some are only 2mb.

If they moved the files when compressing, then the slow down may be from it trying to locate the data. Try reentering the formulas to recreate the data paths. You may also just copy the data into a new excel file, and start again with new uncompressed files.

Please note: I am not an IT person, but I do work with excel quite a bit.

    • I didn't move the goal posts. But anyone who follows football who wants to engage in a rational discussion can't argue that 10 7th round picks are equal to 10 1st rounders in value. The argument has always been we haven't spent as much on defense has we have on offense. Draft picks have value just like salary. We have not spent the same amount of draft pick salary cap on defense that we have on offense since drafting Bryce. It's not even close. Just the 2 1sts we used on Bryce, 2 overall 1sts have a value of 6000. That doesn’t even factor in DJ Moore or the 2 2nds. Bryce cost more than everything we've spent on defense in 6 damn years.
    • We need to hope this scenario plays our next week he fails with pressure…what that means with Evero, is beyond me
    • Woukd be a great addition You know the issues from my prespective, 2 things the Panthers must do 1. Edge or pass rushers or 2 oline or 3 oline or as Andy Reid says, when in doubt, draft a lineman it is time   That oline is troubling plus a small person at QB  they   1. Can do a lot better than mayes at center, 2. and lewis has had injuries all season. 3. Moton should not have  been resigned long term, 4. corbett is a shadow and will probably be released  5 and Christianson coming off Achilles   6 and the kicker, would be Ickey’s contract if they decide to keep him INMO rookie and contracts will be needed to offset all that
