A loss at just the right time?

Last year, the Ravens lost 4 of their last 5. They were 9-2 before they lost 4 of 5.

 

Their offense was struggling, fired their OC and a lot of people wrote them off as dumpster fires.

Then they won the Superbowl

actually yes, i think it was important to get drubbed close to the end of the season as a reality check more than anything else. best case scenario is it keeps guys from getting complacent and we turn around and drub the jets, and then beat new orleans at home, finish the falcons, and march into the playoffs with our heads screwed on tight.

There is no such thing as a good loss. This is some sort of mental defense mechanism for people to cope. Logically speaking winning the division and avoiding the Seahwks/Superdome until the NFC Championship game would have been ideal.

I agree but this team starting getting an invincible complex. I also feel like it affected their preparation. Mitchell and others talking to the media saying "bring on the next team we don't care who we play " . There was also several quotes about Super Bowl. That does not support the next game mindset they claim they had. The Super Bowl wasn't played last week or this week.

They needed to be smacked in the face to bring them back down off their cloud. Now I want them to win their next three and take this reminder of how bad they can play without proper preparation and execution into the playoffs.

i was actually thinking the same i'd almost rather not have a bye. was afraid i'd get told i was an idiot, but look how bad we've been after bye weeks under rivera?  i actually like the thoughts of us getting detroit/philly in round 1 (both of which we are better than) and hopefully winning and getting that mindset in the playoffs that "hey, we can do this thing"

I completely agree. I know alot of people are scared of Calvin Johnson and I would be two if the Lions could hold the ball at all. I think we would make them pay for every turnover with T.O.P. and points.

Exactly....To think otherwise would be foolhardy,in my opinion.

Before the game, I stopped short of hoping for a loss, but we were on an 8 game winning streak with 7 games to go to a potential Super Bowl. The chances of a 15 game winning streak are slim to none. Also we would stand a pretty good chance of facing this Saints in the playoffs. Do we best them 3 times in one season. I'm not sure how I feel about Rivera's comments about their heads being to big or whatever he said, but if the team needed a humbling experience it was a good time. Now let's hope they can bounce back and go on another winning streak.

I was OK with losing to the Saints in New Orleans. I figured going in this Sunday that we didn't have much of a shot since the Saints were undefeated at home, Brees was unstoppable in primetime there, etc.

 

What bothered me is that we got crushed on national TV and came out looking like a huge joke. It's one thing to loose by a field goal or touchdown and realize that, if you change a few things, you can beat those guys next time. The Panthers looked like deer caught in the headlights on Sunday Night Football! I actually remember a shot of Shula on tv during the game, sitting in the booth.. wide eyed and lost, like he had no idea what he was going on.

 

After the game, Rivera said, "I think on the turf it helps in terms of their timing because they have an indoor facility as well". If you get these guys again in the playoffs, in New Orleans, which is a real possibility... the turf isn't going away, Ron! You better figure out how to deal with it. That's like losing in Arizona and blaming it on the dry air. It isn't fixable. 

 

So, that is what bugged me, more than the loss itself. If the game was close, I would have taken it all in stride.

 

It reminds me of the first game vs. the Saints when we lost by a touchdown and had some dumb penalties. Deep down, I knew we could be amazing once we worked out the kinks. After Sunday night, I had no idea what to believe.

 

I think we will beat the Jets and even beat the Saints in Charlotte. We still have a lot to prove how just how far we can go with this squad because if they thought that Saints game in New Orleans during the regular season was hard, wait til they get to the playoffs.

We can afford one more loss. That's it. 3-0 or 2-1 going into the playoffs is is. If we lose 2 more it's pretty much over. You have to get hot again.

I agree with rather having to face Philly but why are you afraid of what random strangers you will most likely never meet in your life have to say about you over the internet? Lol
