Candidates for Texas job include...Mike Tomlin, Nick Saban and Jim Harbaugh?

If you believe this story from CBS Sports website...

Mike Tomlin, Jim Harbaugh reported as possible Texas candidates

I guess coaching the University of Texas must be the greatest gig in the entire football world, seeing as they can apparently get anybody they want

The source also mentions David Shaw and Urban Meyer as possible options.

Of course, it'd help to be clear on whether Mack Brown is actually 'resigning' or not

$100M contract in an income tax free state is hard to refuse no matter who you are.

I think they want (and will get) Saban with the NFL coach's next on their list once Mack is officially gone.

Watching Saban jump ship again would certainly be entertaining

Do you believe it'd truly be possible to pry him away from Bama?

Absolutely....of course it's all rumors but many "sources" say that deal is done but just as many say it will never happen including Herbstreit who defintiely has credibilty so that gives me doubt. If it isn't the reported $100m that can lure Saban away, I think his ego may. Having a chance to take his 3rd team to a National Championship would make him even more of a legend if he can do it. Saban is keeping quiet and reportedly not signing an extension that has been sitting on his desk, but of course this whole Texas thing could just be a good negotiating tactic for him also.

I know Brown is still there but the guy that broke the news that he is gone is also the same guy that broke the news of Texas' AD resigning which was denied many times....until it was announced.

Where there is smoke, there is fire.....

It will be interesting to see what happens.

The Pope is always perfectly healthy up to the moment he dies

The shenanigans could be a lot of fun to watch. Among the Crimson Tide fans, there would certainly be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

    • I probably would have become a casual Hornets fan if Cooper ended up there, but the NBA just solidified my apathy for its product. Hornets also got shafted when Lakers got cold feet on the Mark Williams trade. NBA is corrupt and that alien-headed Silver is the kingpin.
    • Most analysts from what I've seen are projecting next year's cap as closer to $298M. We saw a $24M increase this season, $31M increase last season, and $16M prior to that. There's also the inevitable cap casualties... A'Shawn Robinson being cut saves the team $8.5M. Damien Lewis would save $9M. BB3, Jewell, PJ2 all would save $5M each. Tremble and Mike Jackson could save $4M each. It wouldn't surprise me to see the team make a few moves that end up giving them closer to $50M in cap space to start 2026. I'm less worried about next year's cap space due to the upcoming UFAs for the team: TMo, AT, Tuttle, Wonnum, Nijman, Mays, Corbett, BC, Dowdle, Rozeboom, Martin, Rhattigan, Jansen, Scott... the only FAs I'm seeing on Spotrac outside of TMo that are must keeps are ERFAs Coker + Demani (so long as TMo's knee is fine, of course). 2027 on the other hand is going to be the offseason for Bryce's bonus option with Icky being the most significant UFA. PJ2, A'Shawn, Josey, MJackson, Tremble, Dalton, DJ Johnson, Zavala, and Bartholomew are the only other current FAs then. I'm of the opinion that they are all in on next season and if it doesn't go well, it's being blown up and starting from scratch. They're currently estimated to have $130M in free cap space in 2027.
