Hardy says he'll take a hometown discount from Panthers

Him leaving would result in a 3rd round comp pick I'm guessing?

Not matter the result, even the sad one of him leaving, will net us one hell of an investment off a 6th rounder.

Comp picks are based on the leaving players performance the following season and if a player was signed to fill the void of the free agent that left.

Tl;dr - it's almost impossible to say what he would get in comp picks.

Franchise tag

Sent from my SCH-I535 using CarolinaHuddle mobile app

regarding negotiations on draft day, that severely handicaps leverage for the franchise considering the cap hell we are in and on the hook for another ~11mil..  if that's even possible.

edit: nevermind, you may not have been talking about sign and trade, but instead, just keeping him around..  still, I don't think franchise tag is all too realistic..

that's one way to look at it, assuming we even get a 3rd, but he's playing like a 1st round pick despite where he was drafted so we're still losing out...

The sad part of this business you have to pick and choose your core players.  If CJ is our #1 DE then Hardy won't get #1 DE money.   We have some young guys just like Hardy who are behind him waiting for their chance.

If he wants top 10 DE money he is going to have to get it elsewhere.

Don't get me wrong, I want him to stay but I just don't see us offering him the money he wants regardless of the "discount" he is giving us.

I am predicting he walks.  Sadly but true.
