D.C. Options if McDermott Leaves?

If McDermott does end up leaving, who will we hire to replace him? I think we've got two good options on-staff in Steve Wilks and Eric Washington, but is it possible we'd look elsewhere?

Something else to consider; both Wilks and Washington could be strong candidates for other teams looking for defensive coordinators as well.

Ray Horton if he doesn't land a HC job

Ray Horton runs a 34, so no.

I'd say Steve Wilks would be the first option, seeing as how Rivera originally wanted him here in the beginning. Washington would be a likely candidate, given his awesome job with the defensive line.

With keek out there I don't think it matters. He is smart enough he will make sure we are in the correct alignment regardless of who is calling plays.

Not calling you out in particular but it has been said by numerous posters. Keek is not on some Peyton manning level with calling the shots for their respective squads. McDermott and pretty much any coordinator we bring in is going to be light years above keek in defensive game planning and play calling. Keek is a beast and incredibly smart. But we can't rely on a 3rd year player to call the shots. It's unfair to him and unfair to the team.

    • The good thing about replacing a bad player is you really have nothing to lose. If their replacement is bad so what, you didn't get much worse and probably saved money.
    • I came over from the old Panthers Insider site. When Fox Sports bought that platform it slowly just started dying plus the guy who ran that site was dealing with some pretty significant health issues so the whole thing just slowly fell apart. Quite a few of us migrated over here. Not sure how many are still around.  I miss that place. It struck a nice balance of having enough active posters to keep productive conversation flowing but didn't have so much traffic that you end up with a lot of trolling BS. This place is getting there though since we shutdown new registrations but at some point we're going to have to open it back up or we'll watch this place slowly die off too as posters fall off for one reason or another. We just have to figure out a way to filter out the spam bots. It was a never ending battle to ban the spam bots to keep then from overrunning the site. You'd think they'd be a little more strategic. I mean, if you fill a site with nothing but spam people are just going to stop coming so it's not a sustainable model. But nope, every one of them makes dozens of duplicate threads filling up pages upon pages as soon as their account goes live.
    • lol...I don't remember that.  Although recalling what I had for breakfast yesterday is sometimes a challenge.  Hope it was a positive thing.
