PFF Ranks Offensive Lines

PFF is so subjective. They use their own analysis based on what they see but have no inside information about what was called or should have been called, simply what they see, but my eyeball test says 8th is about 15 spots too high. Does anyone think our offensive line was top 10?

I am a homer as much as anyone but..............

Really???

Thank you. I'm tired of people pretending like PFF is the absolute truth. The act that they don't even know play calls, our set formations, etc, makes it hard for me to believe anything they say. Compound that with the fact that they said Kuechly isn't a pro bowler...

But, just on OLine talk... Saying that our oline is 8th is waaay too high. I'd be hard pressed to even say we were top 20. Our oline was not very good at all.

So jtnc how do you know the line absolutely sucks and needs to be blown up and rebuilt from kalil out?

The fact Cam was sacked the most ever in his pro career, the fact in BOTH Saints games they easily got to Cam. If you can't see Cam ACTUALLY needs time in the pocket, then I don't have the time or crayons to explain it to you. Maybe you can ask your God PFF for answers.

I watched every game this season and IMO there is no way this offensive line is top 10 in run blocking. How many plays did I see this year where DeAngelo Williams or Mike Tolbert already had defenders grabbing at their feet before they reached the line scrimmage?

Kaepernick was actually sacked and pressured at a very comparable rate to Cam this year (like, the difference is <1%), but everybody wants to talk about how godly their offensive line is compared to ours

And before you ask, that's not pff's stats, I'm just using raw data from si's passing splits

Our pass blocking was pretty good most of the year. If you guys ragging on the O-line can't recognize Cam can become indecisive and hold the ball far too long at times, or sometimes doesn't recognize a blitz where he is responsible for a man, or has the bad habit of stepping backwards into pressure instead of forward into the pocket, I don't have the time or crayons to explain it to you.

I promise you that nobody in this thread is saying what you are saying right now.

And for good reason.

PFF is dumb.

They assign screens to defenders and say they allowed a catch/yards for them... uh... how exactly do you defend a screen? The best you can do is tackle the RB as soon as they catch it.

If there's a hole in zone coverage that a receivers get into, they force it onto a defender. That is stupid.

They have certain people analyze the same teams which can lead to heavy biases obviously. Some analysts think pressures look differently, etc.

Then their arbitrary grading system is fuging retarded. I don't know why anyone cares about that. JJ Watt literally had a higher rating this year than he did last. Ben Hartsock was the second ranked tight end I think. It's... stupid. Anyone who pays for premium stats is wasting their money.

    • Damn Logan Jones had a good day too. Was high on him coming in as he anchored that top Iowa line and is a fire plug inside. He's gonna be 25 to start the season so maybe he slips into the 4th but I doubt it, even if C isn't a premium position. His play on the field was top notch and the combine boosted it again. Arm length is about the only knock. But guy is plug and play at C.   This is a loaded class at C. Need to grab one.
    • Bryce will be permanently replaced by a draft pick. There's not another Sam Darnold out there to save us. Tepper is going to see this throw because he dumped Mayfield and Darnold too soon. He's going to give it 1 more year before he will sign off on dumping another 1st round pick qb. Thats the cold hard truth of it. It doesn't mean we can't get younger and much better at the backup position.
    • Maybe I should have used a different word and saved that for me. I want someone that has something impressive about them.  Someone that has potential to supplant a guy who is producing 25th best type of numbers. 22nd, 27th all that bottom third neighborhood.  I don’t know where that will come from it just can’t be from even a 4th round pick this year IMO. Unless FA is crazy productive.    I’ll give Bryce a better than bottom rating for his playoff game. Well above low twenties. But at least half of his games were bottom third level. Probably 2/3 to 3/4 of them were.
