WR at 28 Question

Because I think the 3 are close running and are 3 very different types of players.  What sets Cooks apart in your opinion for what we need?

Playmaker, plain and simple. His YAC are ridiculous and something we've been missing.

Not sure I understand the "Cooks is too small" argument when the same people love Steve Smith and others were begging for Tavon Austin if Star wasn't available last year.

I'd much rather have Cooks than Austin.

I feel the same.  His ability far outweighs his size.  I just like the way OBJ plays out of these three the most but I think it's a pretty close running. I'd possibly consider one of them over JM.

This year is a close call and I don't think there's gonna be a runaway favorite at 28 no matter the position.

For me it's Beckham or Robinson. I find it odd that many on here want to tout a 5'7'' receiver, yet any corner has to be 6'0'' or he is Captain Munnerlyn. Bliss.

To be fair, Brandin Cooks is over 5'10 but I see where you're coming from.

Let's say the top-5/or guys talked about a lot are gone by 28:

Watkins, Evans, Benjamin, Matthews, and Lee

This can definitely happen imo because you have the Redskins, Lions, Jets, Ravens, Colts, and Chiefs at the very least who need wideouts pretty bad (albeit a few worse than others so they may not all necessarily take a WR).  Also, there's more than one wideout needy team past us that could trade up for someone.

Now out of the remaining crop, would you take any at 28?

Most notables:

Allen Robinson

Odell Beckham Jr.

Brandin Cooks

I know it's dependent on what other guys are available but would you be content with any of those three at 28?

Not asking if you'd take them over an available CB, OL, or whatnot but if you would take a wideout outside that top-5 at 28.

A GUY I'D LIKE US TO TAKE WITH THE 28TH PICK WOULD BE JORDAN MATTHEWS OUT OF VANDERBILT.. HE'S ONLY 21, HE'S 6'3" & HE SURPASSED THE HIGH EXPECTATIONS OF HIM TO BE A STANDOUT AT THE SENIOR BOWL... WOULD BE THE BEST BIG WR WE'VE HAD SINCE MUHAMMAD LEFT THE FIRST TIME.

    • I do think the rating is fair given how this unit hasn’t proven it with production. I understand you have to rank off production, not potential. However, our unit is also in a position to make this rating look foolish a year from now. We have 4 guys in the WR/TE room who all could legitimately take the next step this year, and catapult our rank. A guy under a lot of people’s radar after we took Tet, Jalen Coker. Mark my words, he will become the star of this room, and be the heir to Thielen.
    • Exactly. You’d think 2-7 wins a year (in a 17 game season no less) since 2017 is going to keep us bottom tier. Every year we say the same poo like we haven’t been a bad team the past 7 years. Until we prove we aren’t a bottom dweller, that’s where we’ll stay ranked. God forbid we have OL injuries like 2016.
    • What I love and hate about this team is it’s more filled with potential breakout players than ever before. JT, XL, Coker, Smith-Wade, Ikem, Trevin… and even Bryce are all guys I could legitimately see taking the next step. But the problem with having so many of those guys is that team success somewhat relies on them taking that step, and some are bound not to. That being said, I’m cautiously optimistic given our softer schedule, the way the offense clicked late last year, and the direction we finally have at GM, coach, and QB. Could see us as a sneaky playoff team.
