Hypothetical: if Clowney falls to Atlanta

I seriously doubt that's going to happen. The raiders wouldn't have to. They know our situation. So, let's say we tag Hardy. Then tell te raiders that we'd trade them. They have the leverage. They know that, with Hardy tagged, we've put ourselves in a dire cap situation. They could just sit and wait until we cave.

I doubt we'd get a third for him from them.

This. Once we tag Hardy most teams know we've fugged ourselves. It's no secret we can't afford him. Our only hope of getting a decent pick is if teams got into a bidding war against each other. We'd someone other than Oakland to step up and help us out. However I think we atleast get a third. Second would be nice but third is realistic.

No one expected Star to fall last year. I'm sure it will happen again. Good players expected to go high fall every year because of teams reaching for need.

Star didn't fall because of people reaching for need, he fell due to the concerns with his heart.

I think that either Cyrus, Martin, or Lewan will be there at 28, because of the depth of this draft.

The question becomes more of, do we take someone like Matthews, Benjamin, or Adams or one of the OTs?

It's a question of reaction versus proaction. The idea of Clowney going to Atlanta and us trying to defend him scares the poo out of me.

In fact, worst case scenario, gross retires, Hardy goes to Tampa, Clowney goes to Atlanta. Where does that put us for the next five years?

If we have to chose a WR (not named Watkins, Evans, or Lee) vs. an OT like Cyrus, Martin, or Lewan the answer would easily be that we go with the OT. You have to take the more valuable position which is OT. This draft is deep enough that we can still land a pretty good receiver in the 2nd round. Plus, hoping that Gman will make his job easier by addressing WR in FA.

Yea, people likes to use Star as a comparison, but his situation was different. I think the fall of Sharrif Floyd is better serve as a comparison. Tho, Floyd was a late riser after the combine. I wasnt a big fan of Floyd, but the kid did take a major fall.

No, I think it's necessary, but I don't think 1 pick will dictate our draft. Also, with us winning the division last year, teams are building to beat us, and our best bet is to do a lot of self scouting and improve where the best value is.  I think we'll draft OT or WR in the first, it just depends who's the highest on our board at the time of the pick.

Cyrus lewan and martain being there when we pick is about as likely as evans or lee being there when we pick. Top talented tackles wont last til the 28th pick.

I don't think so either, because of that I believe we'll go WR.  I do think though that If on the very outside shot that any of them stay till 28, outside of Watkins and probably Evans, then we will have a no brainer and go OT.

I wouldn't say that. The depth we have on the line is much better than what we have at wr. With lafell contract up ginn hixs and nothing but one year unproven players on the practice squad. I'd much rather have to depend on bell kug amini and bruce cambell over what we have there. Add to the fact we havent used a first rounder on a wr since like 98 rae carruth. I think it's time

    • Trade up for a project was dumb, he's gonna be 25 next month. By the time you're deciding on whether he's worth the 5th year option or a big contract you're already gonna be thinking about moving on soon either way.
    • I mean this is legit AF statement....you don't spend that draft capital on a project just like you don't trade up for an injured RB either, which was done in the same draft.  That draft IMO was a necessary evil for DM to learn from his mistakes (I think he did but some may not). Also I have to mention I'm a big Coker fan and think getting him as an UDFA was obv a steal.  Coker is the better WR2 at this point as Legette and its not even debatable unfortunately.  Give him year 3 but don't expect much from him.  Continue in the offseason with adding as much talent and competition on the roster as possible including WR.  Or just trade his ass for peanuts and continue to build roster by any means.......
    • Losing him was a huge loss. Look at how the Bears went from a 5 win team to now a 11 win team. The Lions offensive line is bad this year, secondary is bad and Campbell going for it on 4th down all the time has cost them games instead of taking the Field Goals. Goff is inconsistent as well.
