you are kidding right? the measurables was half joke but in the end we have had plenty with traditional measurables but were not tough and didn't have great hands so I would put that above being a hair faster.

No I'm not. Just look at how crippling bad 40 times have been to receivers in the past. This isn't about what you and think is the ideal way to scout, I'm just describing how prospects have been and will be evaluated in reality.

it  is about quality.I don't think Landry is going to run a crippling 40 so that is not really an issue.A few 100ths is not going to trump great hands unles you are the raiders.

Landry will be a good #2 receiver in the NFL. Great hands, good blocker, tough, already a good route runner. Landry does everything well. the only thing that he doesn't or isn't going to show well at is height/weight/speed/ He is a possession receiver, guys can move the chains without being a burner.

I wouldn't expect to pick him at 28 but the way things are shaking out he may be there in the 2nd and that would be a great value pick  for us. if the BPA on our board at 28th  is not wr then there are more great options later. I may be wrong but I don't see some of the other names thrown around as being much faster than Landry so the speed question is a little puzzling. In fact I see the faster ones in this draft going in later rounds as well 2nd-5th. I mean you have Watkins  and then the next few are not fast receivers just big.

This is why I have a hard time going WR at 28. If the first 2-3 guys are gone I don't think anyone else is so far ahead of the others that we need to grab them in the 1st. I think there is a big group of very good receivers after the "top" few and who we could get in the 2nd would be pretty comparable to who we get in the first.

And I'm totally with you about Landry. What he brings to the table completely outweighs what a few hundredths on his 40 time will mean. Why are we assuming he's going to have a bad 40 time anyway? Wasn't there a quote from G-Man talking about getting back to drafting football players with "it" rather than being so worried about measurables?

I love OBJ, too. My whole point is I wouldn't pull the trigger on him at 28 because he's not head and shoulders better than who we could get in the 2nd.

That's exactly what G-man said. Keenan Allen wasn't the fastest/biggest  guy in last year's draft, just the most productive on the field. When you watch the game tape Landry can play. I'm sure that will mean more to Gettleman than guys running in shorts with no one hitting them. People putting too much stock on the combine rather than game film is why things like Blaine Gabbert and Stephen Hill happen.

but what OBJ brings to the table, is well worth the 28th pick. he is a special teams demon, a home run threat when he touches the ball, and can play in the slot and outside WR spots and win. he is a a Randall Cobb/ Cordarrelle Patterson mix but has better route running ability, and stronger hands. this guy has improved every year, and started along side of Reuben Randle as a freshman.

but if we pass on him, and take Jarvis i would not be upset. Jarvis reminds  me of Cruz, and kills people from the slot mostly. he has by far the best set of hands in the draft, and only dropped 2 catchable balls this past year. more quick, than fast, but he has plenty of speed and route running ability to get separation on the next level. this guy catches every damn thing.i think both are better than Randle who the Giants took in the 2nd round, when Gettleman was apart of their FO. we also worked him out.

I don't disagree with OBJ's special team impact. Does that make Ginn expendable?

Totally.  Landry brings a lot to the table.

Brugler has him to us in the 1st: http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/nfldraftscout-DaneBrugler

What I like about both of these guys is their mid-range sideline catching abilities.  We run a lot of those routes and having a sure fire catcher for that would be great.  I'd say Beckham is more physical and can get after the ball better for the explosive play.  That's why I prefer him and think he's totally worth #28.

i wouldnt be upset about that. he is tough as hell, and catches everything.i have seen him win going vertical, but i think scheme didnt ask him to do so a lot.

Let LaFell and Ginn walk....draft OBJ...bring in Nicks or Cotchery. I'm good with that.

i'd keep ginn. dude is cheap and just starting to find his groove as a receiver, with the offense, and with cam.

i'd love for us to go into next season with smitty, nicks(or other good FA WR), ginn, and landry and/or some other good receiver/TE in the draft.
