I don't understand what that has to do with it because even though it's a nonprofit, he still pays the same income tax rate on his salary that he would being CEO of a corporation with no tax exempt status.

There's absolutely no reason that I can think of that the NFL should be a not-for-profit enterprise. None.

Teams still pay individual taxes in their states. The NFL just isn't taxed as a whole.
