Nick Foles, Mike Glennon

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Hard to get a good read on Glennon considering how screwed up the Bucs were all around this year. Considering all that, I think he overachived although his stats won't necessarily show it. There is just something about Glennon that makes me think he won't last.

Foles I think is a product of a good system but no matter how good a system is, that doesn't allow you to have a 27-2 TD-INT interception ratio, the 3rd best QB rating in history (behind Manning and Rodgers) or allow you to throw 7 TD's and have a perfect QB rating in the same game. He's got some growing/learning to do but I can't help but to think the skill set is there.

I admittedly can be acccused of having bias on both QB's. Bias for or against?.... I'm not quite sure.

I've been meaning to ask for your unbiased opinion on Chip Kelly vs Andy Reid.

(I know there's not much to go on yet with Kelly, but still...)

I honestly don't have one (or at least a good one).  I am taking a wait and see approach to Kelly but I like what I see so far. I think bringing him in was a good move because he breathed new life into the team but I hope it is all sustainable and that is where my hesitation begins but guys geniunely seemed excited to play football again.

The Andy Reid and the Eagles story just ran it's course and at the end I was just kind of numb to him so I wouldn't really know how to compare the two and not sure if if anyone really could at this point.

Would you ultimately call yourself a Reid backer or detractor?

I think Foles' success had a lot more to do with system than Glennon's, but both made a lot of great throws and decisions.

Glennon seemed to have alot of success in 1st half of games. Then things seem to bog down after halftime. He played better than I expected, but then I didn't think he was NFL starter material. And I'm a NCSU Alum. The entire Schiano/Tampa/Josh Freeman situation casts doubt for me on all the good and bad play from Tampa.

I have no idea on Foles. He played unbelievable, but how much of his performance was Kelly's system and how much was Foles. (i.e. see up tempo / spread QBs from Texas Tech (Mike Leach era)) Still his stats are crazy......

I think when all is said and done, Glennon's ceiling is Jake Delhomme...without the fire.

Foles is a different story, though.  Admittedly, I didn't se a lot of the Eagles, but what I did see was a system and running game that opened things up for the young QB and allowed him to play not to make mistakes.  Foles also seemed to hold on to the ball too long, but that's not uncommon in a young QB.  So, bottom line, I think this year will tell the story on him.  Teams will have a chance to game plan about what their offense does with him at QB, forcing him to take more chances and step up his game.  Really, it's not all that unlike the Keapernick situation heading into last season.

I mean... if anything, Glennon was impressive.

13 games

19 touchdowns

9 interceptions

59% completion

2 TDs and 1 INT vs 49ers

2 TDs and 1 INT vs Saints

2 TDs and 0 INT vs Seattle

Pretty big teams to step up against.

Against his own division:

7 TDs and 2 INT

His team was 22nd in rushing averaging just 3.8 a carry and only had 6 rushing tds all year. Only Cleveland had less rushing touchdowns. Will he do better next season? We will see but 19-9 is certainly acceptable, if not good.

these stats are much better than what i thought they were. i didn't watch the bucs very often, but i wasn't wow'd by anything glennon did all year. the bucs were a shitfest, so i'll give him the benefit of the doubt. at this point, however, i'm not afraid of him in the slightest.

foles impressed me pretty often throughout the season. he'll definitely regress stat-wise, but that's obvious. he also had a great scheme and good players going for him.

if i had to choose one, i'd pick foles 10 times out of 10.

    • I wouldn’t be surprised if the Pats win it all or at least get there. Maye is awesome.
    • Young quarterbacks Drake Maye, Bo Nix, and Bryce Young have led their teams to undefeated records since October.   Drake Maye has guided the New England Patriots to a 5-0 record in that period, with 2,285 passing yards and 17 touchdowns in nine games. Bo Nix has directed the Denver Broncos to a 5-0 stretch, throwing for 1,976 yards and 17 touchdowns, contributing to a 7-2 overall start. Bryce Young, in his second season, has led the Carolina Panthers to a 4-0 run since October, accumulating 1,390 yards and 11 touchdowns amid a 4-4 record.   Undefeated QBs since start of October (min. 4 starts)   Drake Maye 5-0 Bo Nix 5-0 Bryce Young 4-0   Bryce Young when asked about his mindset during game winning drives: "You don’t rise to the occasion you fall back to the level of your training."
    • 1. Cowboys-No explanation needed. 2. Rest of NFC South equally. If I had to pick I would say Falcons.    3. Eagles- Both of the games I have attended there the fans were so horrible. The fan base is so ridiculously misbehaved, I’ve never seen such immaturity. 4- Lions- I have cousins in Michigan that grew up Lions fans and they are some of the most obnoxious people I have ever met, as are all of their Lions buddies. The NFL has been lucky that Detroit has been in the cellar for its eternity.    5. Tie between Bears and Vikings. Both act like Steelers, Cowboys, Niners fans do with nostalgia and legendary seasons but neither have ever really had them. They act like they each won 5 super bowls in previous decades but never accomplished poo outside of Chicago in 85.
