Still loving Gettleman?

I never loved Gettleman since I don't even know the guy. I wouldn't love him if the Panthers won the SB next year. I'm also not bothered by what he says for publication, or interested in analyzing how I think a particular player perceived what he said in the media. He gets paid to manage the team and sign the players we need to win games, just like Rivera gets paid to win with those players. He'll get my respect and admiration if his moves produce wins. If not, I'll be judging his replacement on the same terms.

I've read this story a thousand times already, wasn't the question asked at the combine " is Steve smith still seem as the the #1 wide receiver for carolina next year?" To which gettleman answered "he's part of the evaluation" but also said "Steve's had a great career non of us are here forever"?

Wel that to me seems like an open comment and a fair answer to give, every guy on the roster should be under evaluation especially Steve smith as he's one of the bigger players on the team a leader of sorts, the remark about his longevity is also fair, one day like it or not carolina are going to have to move on from Steve smith.

My point is go back to articles and pieces written about this, key lines or words were missed out like is Steve the #1, it's been made out to sound like it was asked is he wanted, I don't doubt he plays next year for the panthers, I have no problem in gettleman going along with business as he sees fit, after all if he's winning what can we say?.

It bothers me not because of WHAT was said, but that it was said in the public before it was ever said in private to Smitty. 89 is going to have a statue outside of this stadium one day. You don't treat those guys like that, new Sheriff in town or not. Especially when a year ago you did the exact opposite with Jordan Gross who also was coming off a very mediocre year....

I agree and have said that in other posts, just not this one.

So in his first year he cuts Gamble, and forces Gross into a restructure. Gamble retires.

In his second, Gross retires, G-Man treats Smitty like a has-been, and doesn't even bother with Munnerlyn.

Hurney was loyal to his guys to a fault. Think Gettleman is doing it right, or is he the anti-Hurney?

I just think he's trying to field the best player s

I can understand questioning his approach to the situation. But this debate is going to lead to people really disliking him after they feel the need to repeat themselves over and over in the thread.

Time will tell but I have a feeling that people will be calling for his head at the end of next season. He is in rebuild mode while we are in playoff mode.

Based on what?  What has changed? Nothing unexpected has happened.

Are you referring to tiger7_88? He literally became a fan of the team because we drafted Cam Newton. He's an Auburn Tigers fan. Ask him yourself.

What exactly do you think the "tiger" in his name means?

If you need any other assistance following along in this thread, let me know sweetheart.

Could you please provide the requirements it takes to become a gee-whiz JEN-YOO-WINE mega-fan such as yourself? I'm sure the team would prefer to pare down their offerings of tickets and merchandise only to the true-Carolina-blue such as yourself.

    • That's my biggest concern with making him the 2C.  You split up the Aho Jarvis bromance that accounted for a lot of points.  If Jarvis excels as a C, it could help the team even more though.
    • The Saints being that high is the one that killed me. Chris Olave might not know his name at this point, Shaheed is coming off injury as well, so 31 year old Brandin Cooks might be your best WR...coming off a 260 yard season over 10 games. Kamara is Kamara, but didn't have 1,000 yards last year and is about to turn 30.  Toss in the fact that Taysom Hill may be the best QB on the team and I truly don't understand Barnwell's thoughts beside seeing the names "Olave" and "Kamara" and going yep, that sounds better than "Chuba" and "Thielen".
    • Now now now, I wouldn't say there is no logic, but there's just not a lot of in-depth thought put into Barnwell's  "analysis." Now to be fair to him (and other national writers), pre-season team rankings are basically clickbait. And...Barnwell, himself, said that "there's a lot of projection here." He basically admits that he doesn't know how the hell things are going to turn out with our receiver group. He also said that "I find myself" more intrigued by Coker than Legette; that does not mean that he said that fans should be, or that Coker will even be better than Legette (regardless of ESPN's per-route-run stat). So, yeah, Barnwell said some things, but even he has to basically admit that he doesn't know how bad or good that our playmakers will be in 2025.  Overall, what Barnwell is basically thinking is that the Panthers have gotten worse at the offensive skill positions, and baked into that is that others have gotten better. That's the argument in July (meaning, please don't give this any more weight than it's due). I would personally be surprised (not shocked) if we end up worse than the Titans, Pats and Giants at least. Once you throw in the Bills, Giants, Jets, Steelers, and even the Chargers, I personally think there are several teams' skill groups that may end up ranked lower than ours by the end of 2025.  @kungfoodudeis one of my dudes, but like others he is over the tipping point. He's had enough. Seeing is believing. I will say this though: Barnwell's piece is less about logic than just good ol' opinion. And to be honest, he might as well be a Huddler throwing out sh¡t in the summer based upon nothing but good feels or bad feels.  Our offense as a whole (just like any other team's) is going to depend upon the play of the O-line and especially the QB. How you can even rank the skill positions without expressly baking those two things in the cake is beyond me. I would dare say that that's not even logical.
