Still loving Gettleman?

Don't think that other players aren't looking at how Steve Smith is treated. His "feelings" may cause repercussions throughout the organization and the league as a whole. No need to piss him off unnecessarily, or any player for that matter.

Thinking smitty's hurt feelings will affect the entire national football league is nonsense at best. Team? Maybe leave a bit of a shock wave but if they can't move on from him that's a testament to the weakness of their character not Gettleman's business decision.

Other players definitely pay attention to how organizations treat their important players. Nobody is saying guys are crying for him, but it certainly factors into a players mind when considering signing here, especially considering we may be looking at more one year deals.

And if you think that someone will not take into account how every player, much less 89, is treated here when they are thinking of signing with the Panthers, then you are simply naive.

So in his first year he cuts Gamble, and forces Gross into a restructure.  Gamble retires.

In his second, Gross retires, G-Man treats Smitty like a has-been, and doesn't even bother with Munnerlyn.

Hurney was loyal to his guys to a fault.  Think Gettleman is doing it right, or is he the anti-Hurney?

I really love the way Gettleman does business.

BUSINESS.

Let the owner take care of the "family" part... the GM can run the business.

If the damn Indianapolis Colt's fans can get over losing Peyton Manning... if Green Bay Packer's fans can get over losing Brett Favre... then suck it up nancies, Carolina Panther's fans can get the hell over the loss of Jordan Gross and (potentially) Steve Smith.

Anyone that thinks Gettleman is trying to damage the team and, therefore, damage his OWN reputation is just being silly.

Players above all want to sign with winners.

Who were the top-notch free agents Hurney signed due to his reputation of coddling and overpaying players as a reward for loyalty again?

No one is saying that Gettleman is intentionally trying to do harm to himself or the organization, but he is still a relatively green GM, and his handling of this Steve Smith situation is indicative of his inexperience.

Personally, I fully support the "I don't intend to treat a diva differently from anyone else just because he's a diva" attitude.

Hurney didn't have a problem signing FA's if he wanted them. His ultimate downfall was his inability to draft outside the first round.
