Top 10 Panther Jerks of All Time

I was listening to the radio today and Jim mentioned it would be hard to list the top 10 jerks in Panther history. Challenge accepted! Thought it would make a good March Topic.

 

1. Rae Carruth - Paid to have his wife murdered, that sums it up.

2.Kerry Collins - Racial slurs, alchohol abuse, wasted superb talent.

3. Shawn King - Couldn't put down the drugs

4. Todd Saurbrun- Known around town for being a terrible human being.

5. Sean Gilbert - Cripled the franchise with his lethargic play

6. Kevin Greene - Holds out for a pay raise 1 year removed from signing contract. Chokes coach.

7. Mark Fields - Allegedly beat up his ex-girlfriend

8. Jeremy Bridges - Arrested for fighting in an upscale restaurant and pooring champagne on the waiter.

9. George Seifert - Sucked the life out of the building.

10. Steve Smith - We all love Steve on the field but he's been a jerk plenty of times off the field. Most recently calling out retired Fred Smoot

 

Honorable Mentions: Jeremy Shockey, Jason Peters, Nate Newton

What did shockey do wrong while he was here? Would love to hear about peters and newton as well, since I'm a youngish fan.

Shockey was always getting in trouble in New York for missing meetings and breaking rules. But I mention him for posting nude photos of his ex on twitter.

 

Peters was a highly touted 1st round draft pick that flamed out with a pain killer addiction.

 

Nat Newton is best known as a member of the Cowboys and was arrested for drug traficking after his career had ended.

Newton and peters have seemingly turned their lives around and shockey never seemed to be that kind of jerk when he was here. In fact wasn't there a story of him saving hartsock from choking?

      Unless the league decides to rollback the rule book 30 years, that player at QB isn't winning any Super Bowls.  QB has to elevate those around him.  QBs that are carried by the team are always exposed in the playoffs. Closest thing to an average QB that has won the SB recently is Jalen Hurts.  But he's so unique with his legs and the unstoppable tush push that I don't think it's easy to compare him to anyone.  Certainly not someone who is subbed out for QB sneaks.

      You absolutely can have hope. You can’t convert people though; making advocacy posts are kind of … not reading the room.   I had a small hope that he would be able to at least manage some games and that they could make it work in some kind of no fun to watch fashion.  But honestly I had 100% determined he was not NFL starter material, and I had conviction. So to root for him to marginally succeed goes against the best interest of the Panthers long term, according to my beliefs. I wanted him gone the minute he got here if I am honest.It was up to him to prove otherwise.  He has rarely shown me anything to think I was wrong on his ceiling.  He did show me some courage last year, standing in the pocket and stepping into his throw in the face of pressure - but that has gone somewhere. He made some nice throws last year in places too, but they invested in him on the level of the Atlanta game should be his norm. Good luck seeing that again on Sunday. Still, he did it once, so technically it could happen again.
