Eventually #89 will be told to leave. Get over it.

Absolutely he will eventually either retire or be released... but I sincerely hope that if it's the latter, they'll... I don't know... talk to him about it first before announcing it...

This, this, this, THIS

Sick of hearing this now, Steve smith is the best recieving option because hes the only option, if he goes he goes, one day we have to move on whether it be this year or next, carolina panthers will still be playing football and smitty will just be a guy who most of us watched play, one day possibly we will see his statute outside boa, teams move on guys and using the TO at the Niners scenario is not viable at all, lots of teams have let big guys or vets go without a legit replacement there ready to step in, although I and all of you do not know who we will draft maybe we will snag a #1 receiver, who knows.

I'm not gona lose any sleep over smitty going, if he stays il also accept that and support him as he wears a panther uniform but either way Steve Smith isn't bigger than the team and no player ever should be.

Why don't some of you try supporting guys like mcnutt and king and whoever comes to play for us rather than run them down before they've played a snap!.

Steve Smith will leave rather than be shown the door. No way JR lets that happen. The reality is this is what happened with Jordan. No one gives up their salary, plays a year then retires out of the blue. They knew this reality far before we did. Steve will likely hang it up after this season. Gut feeling, not gas tho.

I would love to hear this massive list of teams that let potential Hall of Famers that are still the best Offensive playmaker (outside of the QB) on the team walk out the door with literally ZERO options behind them....

Not only that, but the teams that can't even be bothered to talk to the greatest player in the history of the franchise before making comments to the media....

I'd like to see him finish on good terms.

Of course, there are a lot of things I'd like to have happen.

It seems any time there are options or thinking outside the box is concerned, we get overreactions and futile attempts to simplify complex processes and scenarios.  Everything is not black or white, this or that, good or evil.  Sometimes, you have many, many options and sometimes, there is no right answer, but there is a best answer.

Saying "Well, who else do we have?"  is not the best argument for keeping him.  Reason?  Free agency and the draft are pretty strong at WR. 765 yards is not going to be that hard to replace.   Ideally, however, Smitty will take a reduced contract and a slightly reduced role.  We will bring in a quality WR from the first or second round and we will sign a free agent. Smitty to the slot at about $4m per on a 2-year deal.  Develop our young guys (McNutt and King--some of you have already written them off----please.  One or both will surprise you in 2014).

Disagree. Since 2000, less than 7% of first round Wide Receivers have had 750+ yards in their rookie year, and I don't see us having the cap to bring in a guy who can put up more than that either....
