Honestly, I am more ticked off at steve than dave. The panthers have paid Steve very well in the past 10 years. They were super loyal to him and treated him extremely well considering some off the field issues and trade demands.

Now after 10+ years of the panthers feeding him very well, Steve has a chance to help out the panthers by taking a pay cut. What disappoints me is he would rather get cut and collect guaranteed money than rework his deal to play out his final 1-2 years with this organization. Gross did it why can't Smith

I understand what your getting at, but smitty has always given his all and worked for his contract. He stuck with us through all the vs seasons and always contributed. His pride is unmatched by any player I've ever seen. I get where he's coming from in the whole situation, this organization has never tried to make his job easier by getting a number 2 beside him. Throughout all these years he stuck through itand gave his all, and for someone to say, 'hey your too expensive, we have to lower your salary" is a slap in the face. Smitty isn't the type of person that just stands there and takes it, he fights for what he feels he's accomplished and deserves. To low ball him is asinine. And to lose him sucks, but time is of the essence, it was going to happen eventually. I'll never appreciate a player more than I do Steve smith, he is the epitome of a Carolina Panther.

Remember how mad everyone was at Gettleman last offseason?

We ended up with the best ST unit we'd seen in a long time, one of the best defenses in the NFL, great depth, an efficient offense and an NFC South title.

Until he fugs up I'm all in with him.

Every year with Hurney our team was Madden all stars, always had high caliber starters at key positions but we couldn't sustain success.  A couple injuries and might as well throw the towel in for the season.  Screw that, I wanna keep going to the playoffs regardless of the bumps we hit along the road.

The same ppl who come to the defense of Gettleman and hail him as some great business man, will be the same ones who'll bash a Cam Newton for holding out. We haven't had many holdouts in Panther land. You can probably expect that number to increase with Gettleman here. It's business, after all, for both the GM and players.

Paying $7M for a 35 yo WR is NOT what is best for this team....not to mention that keeping him this year will increase the hit for future years.

He said now as in this moment. I'm not talking about future years because that's not what he said. Cutting Steve Smith wouldn't be about this year, so he can't use the argument that it's best for the team right now.

He didn't make it personal... He is making a tough call that has to be made ...

For example you are making this an "emotional" descion getts isn't... Quit acting like there aren't at least 15 receivers availible that if made a primary target couldn't produce 700 yards and 4 tds....

SS is my favorite all time panther too but old age is an enemy to us all...

If Steve ends up not being cut or traded will you then criticize Gettleman for not doing what you believe is the "right" move?

I am less than pleased at the way he has handled both the Gross and Smitty situation . Take out the argument is Smitty worth the money or not ...should Smitty have found out from the media that his career in Carolina was in jeopardy ? That in my opinion is classless whether it is Smitty or any other player.

I'd encourage all in this thread to look at the "smitty won't be in a panthers uni next year" thread.

Handled poorly is worded poorly.

He hasn't even been asked to restructure.....per his agent.....

Not saying gman is terrible but this situation being fugged is all on him.

Now it's being reported that he wasn't even asked. Still agree?

His agent said he wasn't asked to restructure. I would bet you anything you want that he was asked to take a pay cut and he said no. Why would they restructure him and push money to the future when he is 35?
