Do Gettleman and Co Feel the Panthers Overachieved Last year?

If all the rumors are true, we'll have lost Smitty too... Mitchell was more than a role player in that secondary.. Not in terms of talent, but leadership. He was a core defensive leader. MItchell, Gross, and possibly Smitty are huge losses. [/quote

Go objectively watch some more of his coverage lapses and late hit penalties and come back and tell us what he was.

Make sure you note how our front 7 affected their QB into making poor decisions that any decent DB college or pro, would have easily taken advantage of.

Go become a steelers fan like half the population of the Carolina's and let us continue to root for this young and unbelievably talented core group of pro bowl, all-pro and DPOY.

Thank you! (Throws down trash, slams door and peels out, rooster-tailing dirt and rocks all over you.)

The only player apart of our core moving forward that I wanted was Mitchell. But no way could I justify in my mind 25 million.

You guys are having a tizzy party before anything has begun and act like we don't have the core players on our team already. This offseason is so far from fuging over. This is just the tip.

We already have players that these teams are signing.

You're an idiot. We had no choice but to let Mitchell go for what the Steelers are paying him and I understand that. But he was more than just an average ordinary role player. I'm talking about his leadership in the lockerroom and off the field. Could Godfrey or some other cheap 1 year vet play just as well as him? Hell yeah. But they won't have that fiery passion that Mitchell had that fired guys up. How much will that affect out defense? I don't know that's yet to be seen. The main thing though is the Mitchell was not your ordinary 'role player.'

We certainly overachieved. That's why I couldn't be upset losing at the divisional round. We had a few people that were almost out of the league.

Imagine it like this; the last season was the movie Major League. Aren't you glad were skipping over Major League 2 where everyone came back under big contracts with egos to match?

No, we have Cam Newton and Luke Keuchly.

We built around Keuchly last year and it paid off huge.

We'll build around Newton this year and it too will pay off.

If say we had beaten Seattle in week 1 last year would we have felt we overacheived?

We blew the living hell out of lesser teams than us and won games against very good teams.  That makes us a good team.  If we had made it to 12-4 while barely beating anybody I would agree.

Beat the snot out of the bad teams, split with the good teams, boom, playoffs.

the only core player we lost was gross... who retired... nothing to do with gettleman. smitty is still on the roster. if he wants to stay, he needs to take a paycut. plain and simple. if not, we gotta cut him. all there is to it. you don't pay someone getting 750 yards $10m next season. that's hurting us targeting potential FAs.

otherwise, uh, i see nothing to complain about. gano and hardy were the two most important FAs on the team in my eyes. mike mitchell i could take or leave. he got burned a few times. remember the miami game when mike wallace straight up ran past him only to drop the hail mary on the 1? that can't happen if you want us to pay you 5m per year to dick around while the front seven does 95% of what makes the defense work. period.
