Nicks reps and Panther reps talking.....

Any red flags concerning Nicks and his time in NY will be discussed heavily between Gettleman and the Giants FO.

Gettleman has pretty strong ties with the Gnats, or so I've heard.

If we get a deal done, it will be with our eyes wide open, that should be enough to settle the debate, no?

Gordon had tons of off the field issues....Nicks has none of those.

The possible issue with Nicks is around past injuries.

Like Johnny Rockets said Nicks has his off field issues as well.

Didn't Nicks also admit to playing through pain this year? Can't imagine he'll do that again unless it's another contract year.

Like I've said before, Nicks looks like he's already lost a step or two. I really hope we don't give Nicks anything more than a one year contract. You don't pay someone and then hope he can get back to his old self. You pay for production, and Nicks didn't really produce last year.

I want a WR more than anyone. I just think with money being so tight, I'm not sure we can afford to gamble on a guy like Nicks.

i'm not sure people are understanding our predicament and how nicks is actually the perfect WR, along with Rice, to go after.

These guys are huge potential signings, even more so then Ginn was because they have actually been in the upper echelon of recievers at some point in their careers.

Ginn never had a QB like Cam throwing to him, he shined last year. Won us the NE game.

I look at it this way. We are fuging lucky to even be in the conversation with a receiver like Nicks. We are "cap-strapped" as Gettleman said and we can sign a guy who was:

1. At one point a 1000 yard 7+ TD reciever and still only 26 years old

2. Affordable because of the absolute dumpster fire the Giants were last year and Eli throwing 27 picks.

This is exactly the guy we can actually afford and target and who can come in and make a BIG splash. These are the type of receivers that we can afford right now.  And Rivera is the complete opposite of Coughlin.

also to note:

who else can we afford that can give us a boost like Nicks could right now?

But if things didn't work out with Ginn it wasn't going to kill us because he only had a cheap one year deal.

We bring in Nicks on "potential" and sign him to a long term deal (like he wants) and it back fires we're in even more of a cap mess than we already are.

Signing guys on potential is ok when they are one year, low money deals. I'm not sure that's what Nicks is going to settle for. If he does though, I'm totally fine with it then.

Even if they sign Nicks and hell even Sidney Rice, odds are neither of those guys could stay healthy the entire season.

you don't know that for certain. And who else could we sign right now?

A lot of people keep dismissing this signing if it happens. Who would you sign that could give us a boost?

we have no idea what this deal is going to entail. I do not want a six year deal. that is ridiculous.

2 year deal possibly 3 would be ok with me.

    • I think the qualification has changed over time though. A deep ball play used to take 4 to 6 seconds for the receiver to get to that spot on the field. Now a receiver can be there in 2.5. That's less time than most QBs have to set and throw. In my mind a deep route takes time to develop. A crossing route and a deep route can't take the same amount of time at full speed. You can have 4 deep balls on the same drive,  almost 5 if you do 5 20 yard throws goal line to goal line. That doesn't even make sense when you say it out loud.
    • The sad part is it looks manicured enough that he's aware it's running away from him.  Also, I just wanted to give you some fun loving grief on King Haynes today having a chance to throw a game winning TD, and was wildly errant, and ultimately picked off to end the game.  So happy I won't have to hear anything else about The Golden Calf of Bristol lite ever again watching college football.
    • I just think Panthers believe in Bryce far more than the fans do and he is most likely going to be the QB at least the next two seasons. the real shot of us moving from Bryce is not getting an extension, till then they are going to give him every chance to succeed and I just want to win.
