Steve was the heart of the team.  Right now, I'm feeling like the cardiac cats has flatlined without his fire.

Atleast, we was given time to absorb this blow.  Here's to things working out for the better for both Steve and the Panthers.

Ray lewis

Jordan Gross

Micheal Strahan

Lawerence Taylor

London Fletcher(pretty sure he's retiring soon)

Steve Young

Brian Urlacher

it goes both ways, difference is i don't think there situations was handle as bad as smith's

I wouldn't exactly call what Urlacher had a 'happy ending'.

The vast majority of players don't get to "retire on top" and plenty of highly popular players get let go.

It's just the nature of the business.  The alternative is to run things like Marty Hurney.

Flame away all you want, but I think this was the right football decision. When the dust settles, I think most of you will agree with this. It definitely could have been handled better though. Don't ask me how. Just feel that Smitty deserved better. There is no nice way of doing stuff like this so I kinda feel for Gettleman too. It's the end of an era...

no that's not the alternative, hurney threw out big contracts every 2 seconds, the alternative imo looked way better then the final outcome

still unclear on why he was cut but ill bet whichever reason,if he would have sat down with smith and discuss it,this situation would have been ten folds better

time will tell

They did sit down and discuss it, over a week ago (link)

Since then, they've been trying to swing a trade.  Smitty's agent hurt those efforts by shooting his mouth off.

And here we are.

They didn't sit down until after Gettleman's little press conference.

Why it didn't happen before that is beyond me.
