What if Gettleman is trying to sabotage Cam?

It's simple. JR brought in Gettleman to put together a successful season to make the team marketable. Then he takes the rap for blowing them up, all so the team can move to LA in 2016.

that would answer why we aren't hearing from him. Evil genius,"sorry Dave , it's just business."

He hasn't liked Cam from the start, right? Remember when he was first asked about whether Cam was a franchise quarterback? It's incredibly easy to read Gettleman. The same negative body language he used when talking about Smitty since the offseason started is what he's used in the past when referring to Cam. What if he's trying to set Cam up for failure so he can run him out of town? No receivers, no offensive line, no competitive attempt to go after anyone to help Cam out so far, leaving Shula in place. Cam's contract expires after 2015. Sure does make one wonder...

Dude I think your getting somewhere. I saw Gettleman driving a nice car the other day and decided to follow him. Turns out he was meeting with the owners of the falcons, saints, and bucs. I'm telling you he is a TRAITOR! Clearly the other teams in the NFC south want us to fail and they paid Gettleman off to sabotage our team. This is the only explanation for cutting the greatest player of all time steve smith and letting all our free agents go. We gotta put a stop to this. We are the only ones who can save this franchise!!!

I may be getting all tinfoily after the Malaysian plane thing but.......no I'm not apologizing for this, prove me wrong. This offseason has been so apocalyptically terrible so far that no theory is too outlandish to explain it.

there's an orbiting teapot out there with your name on it

I've not read the entire thread, but it is possible that Gettleman's offseason moves could have a negative effect on Cam.

I'm not convinced he wants to sabotage Cam and show him the door, because Gettleman did speak positively about Cam during the off season. So I think he still wants to build around Cam as our QB. Obviously he might have proffered a more traditional QB, but unless he gets offered multiple first round picks by a QB needy team, I don't see him moving on from Cam.

However, it is possible that Gettleman's moves this off season could sabotage Cam's contract extension. The team needs to rebuild the receiving core, find a new LT and perhaps upgrade at guard, and upgrade the secondary. If the team goes backwards to 6-10 or 7-9, could that have an impact on how much Cam gets paid?

That's the only thing Gettleman might inadvertently sabotage. Cam will get paid, but the question is how much. If we kept our best players and Cam led us to another division title, and at least one play off win, his contract extension could increase in value. Heck, if he did a Flacco and led us to a Super Bowl win, that probably would increase what he gets paid. However, by rebuilding certain areas of the team, if that results in a 6-10 type season, could that allow Gettleman to get an extension done more cheaply than if Cam leads us to a successful season? Or will he get paid the same regardless of what happens?

I agree

Gettleman doesn't want to pay him 100 million. If the season fails he'll just blame it on Hurney then try to play hardball and offer Cam 65 million.

    • Very True--and I am a former HS English teacher.
    • Not a Moore fan-but he had a few good games last year-but I want players that scare you--Renfrow's route running and intelligence, Legette's size, speed, and strength, AT's intelligence and route running, Coker's body control, strong hands, and abilty to win contested catches, and TMac's size, body control, and ability to find soft spots in zone coverages.  Horn gives them the ability to stretch the field and he plays special teams.   Moore has a nice smile and can dance.  He filled in well last season, but to get better as a team, you have to upgrade your players.  I think Moore is a bottom of the roster guy who got bumped when we drafted 2 WRs and signed a legit free agent.  Here is the thing--TMac makes us better because he is great against the zone--man?  Good luck with that.  AT's role can be reduced, and that is probably a good thing.  He can specialize in situational football. Coker?  Just getting started. XL?  Just getting started.  Drafting TMac was probably a bit of a wake up call, but XL will be better as the 2. Renfrow?  I see him splitting reps with AT--keeping both fresh and giving different looks. Horn?  Watch the safety cheat his side when he is in the game--I see a young Steve Smith type in him, but he has yet to play a game.  I hear that Morgan loves him.
