What some people might not be taking into account regarding the June 1 cuts is that while you dont get to see the benefits of the June 1 designation until then but the downside also applies until then.

That's the same report where Reed and Person got their info from. They claim that number already includes Smiths savings of 2 million.

 No it will go to 8 million. Right now its 6 million but the cap relief of 2 million from smith will make it 8 millon by June 2nd

Steve should count for $9m now but $5m later, not sure where they get $2m in savings from. Unless they're referring to savings based on the $7m he would've made had we kept him.

If you then do Smith as June 1 you get to $8M

Looks like we might be taking it on the chin this year. Some restructures may still be possible but there is no signs pointing to it now. Maybe Gman doesn't want to push any more money back into future years.

My question is, when are we done with all this dead money? Beason? Gross? Smitty? Anderson? We're going to need space for Cam, Luke, Star and to possibly take hits for DWill and JStew's dead monies.

Right now after Smith being cut the team would have 40-50 million in cap space for the 2015 season but only have 28 players on the roster not counting Cam.

It makes good business sense to keep all options available. I mean, if you sign him and take the exclusive tag off, it opens up cap space but why. If there is no one you really want to add in FA, the money is worthless. If Get thinks someone will pony up the two first rounders for Hardy before or on draft day, it makes perfect sense to keep him on FT until after the draft.
