Cam Newton now in danger of becoming Donovan Mcnabb.

Awesomeness!!

Even disregarding our lack of doing anything in FA, I worry about him getting nicked up like McNabb with some of the hits he's taken. Not anything really career ending like with Culpepper, but I worry that he'll start missing a couple games each year like McNabb did. I know this seems completely unfounded since he's never missed a game yet, but I can't think of a single "mobile" QB who's been a 16 game/year guy for an extended period of his career. Signing Tolbert definitely helped because it means fewer designed goal line runs for him, but still.

Sorry just venting my general Panthers related worries since this week sucks anyway.

cam has a stronger personality and is more of a leader than mcnabb ever was

Not sure about that. But how does that matter when the panthers will run him into the ground and waste his youth the same way the Eagles did Mcnabb.

I have seen this story before.........same poo different day.

Yep. Philly drafted Desean after Kolb. Desean was drafted to grow with Kolb, the heir apparent franchise QB. The core of the Eagles present offensive talent was not drafted for the pleasure of McNabb or Vick, but Kolb.

Philly did not bring in Vick to unseat Kolb as the No. 2 or the No. 1 QB. They brought him in to flip him for a draft pick down the road. In fact, many in Philly was stunned that Vick was even on the roster for a second season and McNabb traded. They believed that Vick would hinder Kolb, the starter. And trust me when I say that A TON of Eagles fans would have rather LOST with Kolb than WIN with Vick in that unexpected year Vick took over. Not a few Philly fans...A TON.

As for Shannon, he and Fisher share a lot in common. They absolutely hated their franchise QB in RGIII and VY. But RGIII and VY still had success despite being undermined by their Head Coaches. Both VY and RGIII SAVED their Head Coaches jobs (VY did it twice!!) but Shannon and Fisher could care less about either QB.

Look, I am about fairly sure there is not a league wide NFL conspiracy to restrict black QBs from acquiring talented offensive pieces. But there are certainly individual people: GMs, Head Coaches, Owners, OCs, and ESPECIALLY fans who really don't view black QBs as needing great offensive talent because it would, in their opinion, inhibit their franchises.

Don't for a second believe their aren't Panther "fans" who would rather tank the season than be "saddled" with Newton long term. Giving Newton weapons only makes matters worst because it would make enhance the chance of Newton's success.

Yup and totally agree.

As pointed out in the OP.Although I didn't expect nor intend for this thread to take this route.

So are we going to proceed to enter the next season with Marvin McNutt and King as #1 and #2

If thats the plan, changes have got to be made

We don't really need a #1 or even #2 quality to at least succeed. Just give Cam some guys who can actually make plays. Maybe, just maybe, you design plays your guys can execute. You know, let them do what they do best. Maybe, coach to the guys strength.

We may have a funky Offense next year. I expect less vertical, more lateral. Shorter routes, more crossing patterns, plenty of screens, and what not. Just a shorter game, with the occasional deeper seams, outs, and the ever popular post & corner routes thrown in for the fans.

tl/dr version. If we have Cam, we can do lots of stuff on O. All he needs is guys who can make plays. He don't care whence they came.

I don't follow what players we might draft too much, only because I have no control over what the team does. But we will find something for the money we have...and there will be more FAs after the draft.

LOL. You would think that Harper is going to be the only, and best, pickup we make this year. That our roster is set, and we are ready to go to war. Maybe that is why so many folks are so worried. That this is as good as it's going to get?

We need a #1 WR but let's stop pretending it's an absolute necessary to win football games.

Seahawks won the SB with their #1 WR being hurt for most of the year. 49ers won a lot of games w/o Crabtree. etc

What we need is a strong o-line(passing and blocking) which is my main worry atm. If we can get a LT in the draft and some #2 quality in the draft and FA, we'll be fine IMO.

Personally, I would love to load up on Linemen, and WR. Let em' fight for plays, and let the cream rise to the top. Sounds easy peasy.

We were expecting Shula to use more screens, and slants last year. It never happened.

If the dude throws for 6000 YEARS, then I would seriously consider him as being the real Superman...

Cam Newton to break NFL passing yard record with amazing 1 Light Year season.

    • I'm not a Bryce hater and I would 100% move on.  Especially looking at how the upcoming qb draft looks on paper.  Hopefully he continues to improve but if in 3 seasons you're still chasing average season numbers then he's not going to be the guy.  You've just got to keep taking swings until you hit.  Average qbs without any elite physical traits cant get it done anymore.  So this year Hopefully he continues to develop and is above average statistically.
    • Meltdowns???? He was pulled by Canales because he wasn't executing the game plan after 2 games into the season so he could watch Dalton execute the offense and show Bryce the windows available in the NFL, how to push the ball down the field and how to step up and move around when blitzed. When Young came back 5 games later he clearly watched and improved. Enough he was named the future starter. He doesn't have a history of  meltdowns nor is there any reason to assume he will have one. From what I have read he is mentally strong and emotional stable. He may have bad games down the road, everyone does. But this is all a learning experience for him and so far he seems to be making progress. I can understand being hesitant on anything Panthers, but Young has surprisingly been able to gain his confidence after a disastrous start. You aren't alone in being cautious but I think he is the future. I thought he was too small and too short to succeed in the NFL. Honestly I was pleasantly surprised last year and am optimistic about the offense for the first time since Wilks and Dalton were decent.
    • The Rams wanted to trade up for Williams who they ended up within the end. They even told him that when they called him to let him know he is the pick. The other teams are only an assumption. Like the Cowboys, who took a guard. The truth is the team wanted to trade down first and foremost but couldn't get an offer the were happy with. They took McMillan because they felt he was bpa at 8 plain and simple.
