Its hilarious to watch the exact same posters who pissed and moaned about Hurney's gaffs over the last few years, defend him now, crow about his draft picks that hit,  and attack G man because he didnt make those picks ( even though he wasnt here).

Gettleman does not need any defense and Hurney put us in a well-documented hole.  A hole so colossal that we could not even get a GM with ANY GM experience.  Nobody wanted this job.

And just because year two has officially kicked off for a few days does not make it fair to judge him by it.  Are you really so naive and/or clueless that you think he should have the roster solidified and bulletproof after a handful of days of FA in mid March?

No Gettelman gets a pass for this because Hurney has us cap strapped. While other teams in worst shape find ways to navigate the cap.

Gettelman has been giving a built in excuse to completely fug up this FA period plain and simple.

I think Gett agrees to a point.  That is why he is rectifying as much now as possible rather than stringing it out and dulling the pain for our sympathetic fans.  

 

It may seem like he is taking the whole foot because a toe is starting to turn but by the start of the season this will be his team once and for all.  That is if he manages to deal one of our ridiculous RB contracts... or both.

What would Hurney have done regarding Steve Smith - If we still had Hurney would it be safe to say Smitty never puts on another teams jersey? Id say probably so. I'm still in Gettle's corner though. We still have a good team. We will get some play makers in the draft.

On Hurney: Contracts of D-will, Stewart, Beason(not here), James Anderson(not here), Smith (not here), Charles Johnson, Charles Godfrey. 

 

- 2014 D-will, Stewart, Charles Johnson and Godfrey = $34million or 25% of cap room

- 2014 Dead Money: Beason, Anderson and Steve Smith = $15 million or 11% of dead money from these large contracts (debatable if the SS contract was that bad but I say giving a 35 yr old receiver 7m - 10m is bad. 

 

49 million or 36% of Cap room 

 

Good but huge contracts that the FO is doing or trying to do for this year 2014

Kracken = $13m (lets say long term will be 11m average)

Cam = $18-20m (estimated on extension this year) 

Kalil = $7.8 mil

Olson = $7.2mil

 

48 milion projected or 35% of Cap

 

Sooooooo we got 97mil or 71% of our cap that will likely be tied up by 8 Active players!!

 

I aint no rocket scientist but you all are crazy if we expect that $39 milliion is going to get us anything but low end players because last i checked an NFL team fields more that 22 players. 

 

Now the only thing I do blame DG on is the handling of SS but that is over and who cares now. But you all need to be realistic we are going to be in this "Cap Hell" until 2016.

What amazes me is if we look back on the Hurney era. We once had Steve Smith and Julius Peppers on the same fuggin team. We had a healthy Jon Beason in his prime and the most underrated CB in the NFL for the decade in Chris Gamble. Not to mention a young Deangelo Williams.

 

Yet we only had a few winning seasons. We should have been competitive every single fuggin year. Hurney's to blame but so is Fox for being a candyass coach.
