McNutt as No. 1 WR

Since this guy is now our no. 1 WR anyone have any info/opinions on this guy other than he converted from QB to WR?

Sounds like he's a big, athletic target but needs to work on his route running. Also, is a non-factor on special teams (from everything I've read).

Will he have a breakout year? Is he better than LaFell?

with his one attempt it certainly proved his potential is > Lafail! I actually feel good about this guy. The others ps guys are nothing to get too excited about imo. With that one pass, that kid went after it, those other guys are running around and not creating that space.... yea, yea, i know some will disagree but I'm being optimistic believe it or not. McNutt will be a solid #2 or 3 when the dust settles. watch and see

He should get the work on his route running this year

I'm willing to bet he is our no. 1 for about another week or so until we sign someone.

Either way, if any of these two receivers turn out to be a no. 1, then gettleman needs a pat on the back.

That said, bring in some talent getts.

"its already on the roster"

I'm all for drafting a stud WR in the first to grow some serious chemistry that will be sustained for many many years. The sooner the better.

I cringe saying this, but perhaps a superstar LT isn't as important for us, because Cam is in fact so mobile and hard to tackle. Don't get me wrong can needs to have protection, but we've been putting of getting him a bonified #1 threat for so long. We could get someone in here who can get the job done at LT for a year or two until we have the ability to bring in a big time LT

yeah - I don't think we'll see that much of a drop off between McNutt and LaFell .. I'm excited that Cam has a big target - maybe his completion % will increase

that being said .. IMO Cam overthrew Smitty on several occasions and maybe that was part of Getts decision to release him .. Cam tends to throw high and needs big targets like McNutt

All jokes aside, I dont know why but I have a good feeling about Mcnutt. I remember hearing about him from time to time during the draft and how he could possibly be a early rounder and is talented. Lets also remember the only time he got on the field last season he made a great circus catch over a CB blanketing him in the endzone, he was out of bounds but still. Now im not saying hes going to be a HOFer or anything but I do think he could be a legit upgrade over Lafell.

    • It’s going to get wild after this Sunday.  I would assume Dave has a really smart plan.   Sorta like the AZ plan last year.    After a big turnover heavy  bad game Bryce normally reels it in.  Bryce will have one of his standard 60% for 200 days and the Bryce defenders will use that as a “ I told you he is good” games.
    • Bryce is a really smart kid and I'm sure he knows all the answers to the test but he hasn't been able to overcome his lack of physical tools and other DC's know this and play him accordingly. I think Bryce has good processing but when the correct read is the WR 30 to 40 yards down field and you have a defensive lineman coming at you what can he really do? He just doesn't have the arm to effectively and consistently hurt the defense and I think that's what's gonna do him in.  Pime example look at the INT versus Dallas last year when Thelien was wide open down the seam and Bryce threw it from a clean pocket and the ball was way short. Dc's watched that and knew that Bryce can't throw the ball deep.
    • I'd give Bryce until the trade deadline to prove he's the answer and if he's not I'm dumping him for whatever pick we can get and I'm riding with Dalton the rest of the way.  2 and a half years is enough time to determine if he can be the QB going forward so for Bryce he needs to come out over the next couple of weeks and show that. The other players in the locker room don't wanna waste another year of their careers waiting to see if you'll ever figure it out.  If you took a poll of the players in the locker room I'm sure they'd rather lose with a respected veteran Dalton who at least gives them some creditability versus losing with Bryce who the entire media will say was let down by his supporting cast when in reality it's Bryce's physical limitations that are holding this team back.
