NFL.com Power Rankings: ( we're 10th)

Panthers Ranking, 10th

Word out of Carolina is that general manager Dave Gettleman has been reading "Pro Football Preview: Who's Gonna Win the Title in 1938?". Which explains why he apparently doesn't see the need to have a receiver with a single NFL catch on the roster.

The Panthers finally got back on the football map last fall. Let's hope they don't crash back to Earth just because they end up having to rely on someone like Sidney Rice to convert on third-and-8.

OMG do you guys really think we could land Sidney Rice?!?  I would be so excited.........

nononono they said "like Sidney Rice"  this in no way means it will be Rice.  It will probably be our 5th round draft choice out there with lots of potential and cant stay healthy.

Its just March. I wouldnt read too much into it. If we only have practice squad guys on the roster at the beginning of Sept., there may be reason to panic. Chances are that wont be the case. However, i am interested to see what McNutt & King can do when given a shot. Also, i have always like Pilares. (Former HB turned WR) You never know, they could show up big, or..........not.

Best case scenario we hit on 2-3 wide receivers in the draft that are at least able to contribute; and one becomes a future #1.

That'll give Cam some young ballers to throw to for at least the next four years, and they'll be on cheap rookie contracts.

Of course that would mean these WRs would have to be atop our BPA board, assuming the FO sticks to that philosophy.

Im so sick of hearing it's just March!!! 50% of teams winning is signing the right players in the off season. When's the last time a team has won the Super Bowl just by sitting by and watching in free agency? I know last year Seattle went out and signed Tate pretty fast if I remember correctly.

You may be sick of hearing it, but its the truth bro. Some teams go all in in march and it doesnt pay off. Point is, we are cap-strapped. Only so much we can & should offer. Nicks could have got hurt and missed the whole year. We just cant kno that. Just give it a lil more time. We want results now, but thats not always the best way.

It's good to at least have enough recognition to be ranked at 10th. I'm not sure that this ranking will hold up though. Last year, obviously, our defense carried us. Our offense had it's moments but I currently see more moments offensively from last years group than I see from this years group. I hope I'm wrong and hope that Gettleman can make magic. But given the simplicity of our offense last year, it's hard to imagine...

Golden Tate was already a member of the Seattle Seahawks.

You may be thinking of Percy Harvin but Seattle wins the Super Bowl with or without Harvin.  Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril were big for them, though.

    • Tell me something I don’t know. I said right there in what you quoted I wasn’t optimistic. I said I could still be hopeful. Which ain’t the same but will have to do.  I have optimism regarding more compartmentalization aspects of the team. Some players. The good draft we had is cause for optimism. Maybe that Tepper is actually being less harmful. Maybe.  I had some for Canales but his meter is about 50% right now with me.  Etc
    • Got a little more juice in us this period. Gotta get these chances to start falling. Ducks and us keep getting these chippies that are missing. First team to start banging these in and I think the floodgates open.
    • The things that make people give up on him is that he is getting worse in terms of simple football things and he isn't improving on much in terms of being a WR. He has improved his drops but then he has increased his insanely boneheaded penalties. I mean, the dude has THREE false start penalties. That is the second most on the team.  Couple that with his obvious limitations in terms of field vision, agility, etc and you just start to wonder what there really is to even believe in. I'll put it this way, when such a notoriously terrible personnel management coach like Canales gives up on you, that's saying a lot. He has ridden more bums for longer than any of us care to remember.
