Stephen King's The Stand remake

Now word on the street is that The Fault in Our Stars director Josh Boone is in talks to become the film’s next writer and director. Some speculate the reason why Boone is being considered is the possibility of The Stand benefiting from some YA crossover. Of course, this flies directly in the face of the recent rumors that the film might be R-rated. Reports indicate the R-rating is because the potential new script would be much closer to the book than what the studio had been previously considering.

King told Entertainment Weekly that even he could not see the project as a single film and felt that maybe a trilogy would be able to capture all the elements of the novel. Frankly, I agree with this assessment. The book provides much grist for the mill and a trilogy would solve the issues that the 1994 ABC miniseries encountered towards the end of its production, as money became scarce and sets became, let us say, a bit rushed.

So the studio wants it to be one movie? I agree with King, to do it right gotta have a trilogy at least and it should be rated R, these studios need to grow some balls and stop trying to make movies just to get the teenager money.

Also they are finally coming together on The Dark Tower series, but I think that would work better as a TV show on HBO or AMC.

So they lose Ben Affleck as director (a budding master of R-rated action/thriller flicks) and respond by plugging in the director of a Millenian tear-jerker teeny bop romance...for The Stand?

Wow. Hollywood never fails to disappoint.

Why do people even mess with movies...they could just make a True Detective, American Horror Story mini series with a movie budget. Both those series are rated R, TV MA and are most sucessful.

You create a frothing fan base like True Detective had through social media..maybe even create a new series based on the Stand.

It could open up a Stephen King once a year mini series story. With how Hollywood translated King's horror stories he might should consider it.

The funding would be there in my opinion as long as Randall Flagg does not look like Billy Ray Cyrus.

The old TV miniseries was limited in budget and was Ok at best, but I thought it was cast pretty well...a couple of actors in it were exactly who I imagined playing the roles in the book when described.

Like the guy from coach who played the man-child.

(warning) Minor book spoiler..not really spoiler: read on.

My fave part from the book that was omiited from the tv was when the dog was even having dreams of Randall Flagg spooking him. Hope they include it like how Tarentino included the short anime of The story of O' Ren Ishi in Kill Bill. It was a departure but was important to the story.

The dog dream maybe less important but a cool affirmation of the power of Randall Flagg.

Would love to see HBO run with TDT series.

I agree. I have to wonder if they would change the ending for a TV show or movie. I'd imagine they would.

During last weeks Walking Dead when they showed up at the RR tunnel the first thing that popped in my head was the Lincoln Tunnel sequence from the book.

I've never been one to really get scared from reading or watching a movie for that matter.  However the Lincoln Tunnel chapter freaks me out to this day.

    • It’s wild to me that so many of you guys are threatened by the idea of an opposing team fan who is polite in 2025. He’s been posting here on and off for years, usually when our teams play each other which hasn’t been for a while. I’d maybe understand this treatment if it was a falcons or saints fan, but packers fans in general are one of the nicer fan bases as long as you aren’t another NFC north team (especially the bears).
    • Some players excel on the big stage, while others freeze and succumb to the pressure. I’m not convinced Cam took a dive. I think he didn’t handle the stage very well. The pressure got to him and he folded. He wouldn’t be the first quarterback or player to struggle in a Super Bowl. Two HOF examples - John Elway and Jim Kelly. The 2002 MVP, Rich Gannon, threw 5 interceptions against the Bucs. Poor performances happen.  Unless of course you believe all these players threw the games they played in, but if that occurred, surely someone by now would have admitted taking a dive? 🤷‍♂️
    • It was always a matter of time with Cam’s playing style and a shorter shelf life than passers that protect themselves. I suppose Cam could have still been playing in 2028 ten years after the hit took place, but he would need to have evolved as a quarterback and become more of a passer than the dual threat maestro he was. It’s sad because it makes us think of what could have been, but I do feel it was always a matter of time until all the hits took their toll.
