Jacoby Ford a possibility

Wouldn't be opposed to Ford. Sure, he's not going to come in and tear it up as a WR but we also didn't think Ginn would do much this past season. Besides, we do need a return man, something that gets overlooked at times.

Speak for yourself. Ginn showed potential in Miami and then played with Alex Smith and Jim a Harbaugh in a power running scheme. It wasn't that far fetched to think he could continue to play at the same level he did in Miami and for us last season.

The thing I'm worried about is replacing the big catches he did have. The New England catch and run as well as the game saver against New Orleans. Cam also had him wide open on the sideline against San Fran part deux but saw him too late.

I am not going to say that giving him a shot is bad but i cant see why people have latched onto him over any of the others.

b/c he is a proven returner...and has the Ginn like speed.

who else meets that

True, he does have potential as a kickoff returner which is becoming less important seemingly every year. However, he has returned very few punts and not been anything special doing so.

from wikipedia...

Why hasn't he had more success?

My take is that, he's been playing for the Raiders. He is an upgrade from Ginn by far imo. He can make catches with his hands with contact, so his hands are serviceable. You've probably already heard plenty about his speed so lets just say he's fast at all levels. He's also short but not small, similar in build to Smitty but not quite as thick. That in itself makes him one of the most difficult types of receivers to throw to. Now lets see who was throwing to him. . . Raider's QB's in a Raider's offense.

How about the Linsfrac surgy that caused him to miss a lot of time over back to back years? Well, Linsfrac is toe related which you can imagine is a pretty weak bone and could commonly get broken. . like a pinky finger or a thumb, poo happens right? Supposedly he's healed and hasnt lost any speed.

He was used all over the field and that included iso's and double teams. Sort of as a poor man's Smitty with a diminished role in the offense mostly because well. . he's not Smitty. I think he's critical to our offense to have because of the way its deisgned to stretch the field vertically. Of all the FA's, this is the guy we really need. Drafting Cooks is a gamble or a backup plan or just a hopeful thought at the moment. Might not need Cooks if we get Ford. Then we can look at one of the bigger guys.

This is a good point.  They were talking about moving the KO to the 40 again--possibly taking it away altogether.

Uncalled for huddle meltdown by the usual suspects because we didn't sign another terrible FA in 3...2...1...

We can do much better in the draft anyways. People were just reacting to a name they had heard of.

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
