John Ramsdell - Senior Offensive Assistant?

I just noticed this today.  No teamsite info, no google info.  I think I might've been the first to see this.

Obviously if not, disregard and go easy.

This is a pretty massive move for the team, in my opinion.   Those of us that pay attention to that stuff, he was the top choice for a few of us for OC in '11.  Also Lance Taylor's gone as assistant WRs coach, which is a spot I hope we fill.

Holy hell!  How did that go unreported?

(he has no bio yet; his photo looks like the same one from the Charger page; maybe it just happened)

Ramsdell is a guy I've coveted for our coaching staff for a while now. Generic title could mean he's teaming with Shula to work on the offense in general (especially with a word like 'senior' in there).

Awesome find, Mags.  I'm stoked :D

yeah. I'm sure everyone's thinking, what in the blue hell is all this about?

For the uninitiated this could be massive - Shula's a modestly experienced coordinator on a team that's conservative in its approach.  Add in that all the assistants on offense with any real pull, the vets, are all running game guys (OL, RB, etc).  I like both Dorsey and Proehl a lot - but both are green, and neither have that vet touch to the O that can help our passing game.

So Ramsdell's spent 20 years under a couple of the aces of this offense's development.  Problem solved there, at least in experience.

Great reporting Magnus!

    • If he’s fired, he might be our new DC. I always liked his defense in the past, a lot more aggressive than what we currently have. What’s everyones take on him as a potential DC for us?
    • I think that depends on whether you think he's done developing. If he continues to improve as he has over the last year and a half for another season or two (especially with his deep passing) we'll really have something. I know there are questions about how high his ceiling actually is, which I think is the real foundation of the debate about him, but at this point I don't think it matters much because we're not moving on from him for at least another season and likely another 2 seasons. So wherever side of the debate people are on we all might as well sit back, root for the guy and hope for the best.
    • Me, watching the play, I didn't hear the whistle calling Latham down and was like "Oh poo! He just set the ball down!" I was really afraid we were going to have one of those "never live it down" moments where  a Buc comes by, snags the live ball and takes it in for a TD as if it was a fumble. Didn't even notice DB's absence on that play, but if he's regularly being pulled on third down, there may be some rest periods needed for the big guy. Looks like they still handled business, though, so maybe Evero has a better ear to the team than we do.
