Things over the past year that Smitty has done that don't correspond to the Gettleman style

Recommended Posts

Yes there was.

He made too much money. He wasn't as good anymore. And then you throw in the "who's in control of the team offense" question, and you have your answer "why he was cut".

All the other stuff, are just convenient excuses (like Philly's initial "gang affiliation talk" with Djax), axe grinding, and/or speculation by media and fans.

i've said this millions of times it wasn't about the money, smith said himself he was never approached about a pay cut or restructure

wasn't as good anymore depends on what your comparing him to,and the in control thing is bs IMO, there's not evidence that smith hampers Cams ability to control the offense...........i don't if everyone has amnesia but the offense struggled badly with smith out.

There is a huge difference between Jake and Smitty vs Cam and Smitty.

Jake had something I don't know what to call it other than fire.  Smitty has that too.  Thats why they respected each other so much.

Cam has fun, he's not so serious or "fiery"  This is what I feel led to Smitty appearing to "hold Cam back" in a leadership role.

Now all the "fire" is on the other side of the ball and its time to see if Cam can do this his way.

Cam is definitely fiery. Does no one remember cam nearly chewing off that ref's head? I mean if fiery means just talking a lot of poo on camera then there are very few "fiery" people in the nfl.

So we want a bunch of offensive players that have fun?

Ok before this gets out of hand.  I'm making an observation.  I don't necessarily like that we don't seem to have any "nasty" on the offensive side other than maybe Tolbert.

My answer to your question would be a resounding No.

Cam can get intense I agree but that's not his standard operating procedure.  Hes calm, has a smile on his face and plays like hes having a blast out there while Smitty played like he wanted to kill something.  Its just a difference of personality.

    • I think we have some revisionist around it here because of all the drama around Tepper's involvement. If you pull up any scouting report from the time you'll see the same take. WalterFootball's report sums up the media's thoughts on him well: "Young has everything the NFL is looking for in a quarterback except in terms of weight and height." He was the consensus top QB of his draft and the only real question mark they had about him was whether his body could hold up in the NFL. The infamous Steph Curry comparison the Panthers latched onto came from Albert Breer. The excuses I've heard for him are more anecdotal. Bryce Young's development is the only bullet point most NFL fans have on the Panthers right now. That and the coaching turnover. If you're not actually watching our games it's easy to believe this is just a dysfunctional organization that doesn't know how to unleash this talented Heisman winner.  I've seen media and fans alike run with that narrative way more than criticizing Young outright. Whenever we win there's flocks who use it as proof that the Panthers just need to be patient.
    • So maybe 1-3 vs playoff teams, going by standings as of today. I guess that is an improvement.  We are just about improved enough to be in purgatory draft wise. It really isn’t so bad in the 1st unless you really want that top QB or maybe edge guy because there are usually plenty of good players at the top but it hurts you some as get deeper in the draft.
