Do y'all think the WR will drop in this draft. I mean everybody says it's so deep. It's plenty of WR needed teams but say for instance Jets they need DBs bad. So say they say hey we can pick a good WR in the 2nd so let's fill this DB postion cause its not as deep as WR idk just a thought.

Cody Latimer - WR - Hoosiers

NFL.com's Gil Brandt reports that the 49ers "paid particular attention to" Indiana WR Cody Latimer after his private workout.

"49ers paid particular attention to Cody Latimer yesterday. WR coach John Morton spend 1.5 hrs with Latimer after workout going over playbook," Gil Brandt tweeted. The 49ers are desperately looking for young talent to join their WR unit with veterans Michael Crabtree and Anquan Boldin leading the pack. Their two backups are newly acquired Brandon Lloyd and second-year talent Quinton Patton. Latimer could be the big-bodied, play-making receiver the 49ers are looking for on the outside; his physical style of play fits in nicely with their power-running, ball-control offense. Latimer has generated quite the buzz as of late and it's possible plenty of teams could be interested in Latimer's services at the end of the first round.

9ers might have to move up ahead of the Saints (if not earlier) to grab this guy. They have a clear advantage since they have 14 draft picks as collateral.

Asked Gil the other day and he said it was too high to take him at 28 but he really liked Latimer's character. I think he's at least a late 1st round pick.

Tomorrow, Friday the 25th, at least 23 teams will travel to Bloomington, Indiana for the on campus workout of receiver Cody Latimer. At least twelve wide receiver coaches are expected to be on hand as will Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly and Pat Shurmur, the teams offensive coordinator. Latimer was recently worked out by Carolina Panthers receiver coach Ricky Proehl. There’s little debate that Latimer is the fastest riser at the receiver position. I’ve spoken with several sources who tell me he won’t get out of round two and could surprise late in round one. There are a number of reasons for his ascent but the two things I continue to hear as the biggest factors are 1) his 4.43s forty time at pro-day and 2) the way Latimer consistently wins out for contested passes.

Panthers dearly need a guy that possesses both of these traits.

They were severely lacking during the past two seasons.

I could see us drafting him but I really wouldn't want to draft him until round three but his draft stock keeps rising so much that he could be a first round pick. I would hate us drafting him at #28 but I would be ok with a 2nd round pick. After reading his profile from NFL.com I believe our staff really likes this guy because he fits our system.

STRENGTHS

Very good size. Shows a jab step to get into routes cleanly and is equipped to combat the jam. Can use his frame and physicality to create separation on slants and "post-up" throws (strength was evidenced by bench-pressing 225 pounds 23 times at the combine, leading all receivers and besting some linemen). Nice catch radius -- extends to snag throws off his body. Soft, dependable hands. Nice strength after the catch. Good blocker -- subdues cornerbacks, shields, stalks and sustains. Improved steadily over three years as a starter.

So, you want to draft a guy on the third that all of the experts are grading as a first rounder?

You should be banned for that stupidity alone.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
