Landry runs 4.58 at pro day

OBJ would be this year's Star dropping to 28. I think Beckham Jr has solidified himself as the #3 WR in this draft moving slightly in front of Lee and Cooks. If Baltimore, NYJ or Philly goes WR, he makes too much sense. For us, I think Lee is an outside chance, but Benjamin, Cooks, Matthews, Robinson or Latimer will be our WR options at 28. I like Latimer in the 2nd, but not in the first, though our scouts seem very high on him.

It'd be interesting to see where Landry falls in the draft. Remember that a lot of personnel people want to give prospects good grades, and these workouts are only a cross-check for what they see on tape. Now, let's assume that a certain team liked what they saw on tape. OK, his 40 time was bad at the combine, but it improved on his pro day. Yes, he had some drops, but he caught everything on tape. Certain teams are going to look at his pro day as a success and bump him up the board.

Now, just how high is he going to go? Who knows. I still wonder what this guy's model of success will be. But you never know, a team like Seattle may take a chance on him.

They use electronic timing at the combine they are hand timed in pro days ...

He is a 4.7 guy .

I think the start is by hand, but the finish is electronic, but I wouldn't swear to it.

Nevertheless, I think the combine 40 is, while not totally worthless, pretty close.  At most, it gives an indication of speed and is meant to level the playing field, but it's far from definitive, and can actually be quite misleading.  After all, running in aerodynamic shorts, shirts, and specially designed shoes is a far cry from carrying 25 lbs. of pads and running in cleats.

I think putting everyone in pads to run the 40 would be far more telling about functional speed, which is what separates the studs from the duds, IMO.  A lot of guys have good speed in shorts, but lose it when the pads go on.  I want the guy that maintains his speed.

Also, a runner can significantly improve their 40 time simply by working on their technique.  And have you ever seen a receiver line up in a 3 point stance with his off hand in the air?  Nope, but the player that comes out of that stance smoothly can run a much faster time than a guy that hasn't mastered the technique.  So a receiver can be judged and dinged for a move that he will never make on the football field and doesn't have any applicable value toward their position (well, unless we're talking OT's).

Very true and thats why you have to look at all of landry's #'s to confirm that he runs at turtle speed..

his vert shows a lack of explosiveness and his 3 cone was horrendous. if you watch his film you will see that he is consistently covered by college db's and he wins with his ball skills. In the NFL you will not be able to win consistently if you have no separation speed or quickness.

    • If Reich or Fitterer were still around I think the need to extend Young because of what he cost would be stronger.  And yeah Morgan was Fit's right hand when the call was made but there an equal chance that Dan will see it as a chance to move on from Fit and shake off that stink. Holding out some hope that 3 years and clear eyes will allow for an honest appraisal that Young just aint the guy
    • As far as elite/elevate talent QB’s It’s Allen Mahomes Jackson and Burrow that’s it.  Then we have tiers and those can be debated all day Dak is a good QB but I know this board would want him out of Charlotte if he was the QB here. 2 playoff wins in 10 years. Justin Herbert no playoff wins. Threw 4 interceptions in last years playoff game. 23 TD passes last year. 20 the year below and 25 the year before that. This board loves stats without context and these stats aren’t saying they’re much above complimentary  Kyler Murray isn’t good. I’m not sure how he made this list.  Caleb Williams, Trevor Lawrence both benefiting from some real good offensive coaches right now. They’re both complimentary pieces until proven otherwise  I like Jordan Love. Always have. I wanted to draft him but he isn’t a superstar.  CJ Stroud hasn’t been much better than Bryce after his rookie season. After that Bears game year 2 his numbers very similar to Bryce I will say I think Drake Maye is well on his way to becoming the next top tier QB if I had to pick one from this entire list. I’d also say Baker Mayfield is a damn good QB and I’d take him over most of those guys not in the elite category  Now if you want to debate tools and which QB’s possess tools to put them in higher tiers that’s a completely different discussion. Most QB’s on your main list all have those physical tools that will keep you thinking he’ll become the next top tier QB. They’ll sprinkle in a “wow” play or two a game. Bryce will never look that way. Young’s game at its peak will physically always look different and I think that’s where most people struggle when it comes to seeing how Young’s can be successful in the league  All QB’s need a team around them. I think the Bills are failing Josh Allen much like the Panthers did Cam. Beane and McDermott using same blueprint with Bills team. Josh Allen hasn’t had much in terms of WR’s and it’s ultimately costing them when it matters the most
