Panthers sign Ed Dickson

what happened last year and i'm assuming is this year, is that a lot of these players will only agree to one year deals because they think that the next year will be better for them. at least as far as getting a good long term contract, anyway, because they think there will be more cap space. in the case of guys like dickson who haven't done well the past couple years, the best chance they have for a lucrative multiyear deal is to take a one year prove it deal.

at any rate, the one year deals isn't to our benefit since we could probably backload a bit and offer more money upfront than we would with a cheap deal.

Thanks man! That makes sense to me. Good stuff

"Dickson drew interest from other NFL teams, including the Jacksonville Jaguars, Buffalo Bills, New York Jets and New York Giants.

The Ravens talked to Dickson during free agency but wound up signing former Houston Texans tight end Owen Daniels to a one-year, $1 million contract that includes another $1 million in incentives."

- Aaron Wilson

He definitely drew some interest around the league, there were also rumors he had a couple offers. However, I don't see where he visited anywhere but here.

He had nearly 300 yards last year with less than half the receptions that he had in 2011 when he put up 528 yards.

Yes he has some drop issues apparently, but I think he'll be out to prove himself. Especially on a one year veteran minimum deal.

Ravens fans are saying he's extremely unreliable and drops everything. Dunno if that's lost free agent bitterness or legit.

There's some truth to what they are saying. However, in my opinion Hoener (has developed Vernon Davis, Kellen Winslow, and Greg Olsen) is the best TE coach in the league... so perhaps he can fix some of Dickson's issues.

They can suck it. Its vet minimum so if we get anything out of him its a deal.

We can Offord to have risky people on the field on 1st and 2nd down, especially when we have hands in cotch and avant

    • Is this the year the Steelers finally have a losing record?? Who is Arod going to hand off too? Who besides the newly traded and paid DK is going to run routes?? Who is the TE?? Can the OL hold for 5 secs without being flagged?? TJ watt is upset and underpaid, cam heyward is 49 years old, how has Tomlin done this?? Im not a fan, but go ahead and put Toms in the HOF, Jesus he's a wizard....
    • here I feel is the greatest overlooked skill for QBs. Being able to avoid hits, guess who was the best at that- Tom Brady. If you watch enough clips, you will see Tom take one side step left or step up, it perfectly avoids the defenders pressure. The other level is, he did so before he needed to. Just a grand master.  It's simply a godlike trait and no one talks about it.  I've pooped on BY plenty, he's much better than I thought at avoiding hits while running and still learning the master art of making defenders miss in passing situations.
    • I hope peeps don't bump my draft QB ranks where I had Anthony Ricardson ranked above BY..... Add another selfburn, I had Levis right next to BY if not slightly above him a couple different ranks..... * I did have stroud clear #1... *** BUT the way trends are currently....... its too early still, but BY is pointing up at least while the others are down.... Still wish that trepper never forced that trade, but I totally get he was beyond tired of waiting for a QB savior. Dang tepper, if you had the coaching staff, either Baker or Sam Darnold would have been the guy.
