Is Deangelo Williams a multiple 1000 yard all pro running back if he was never paired with stewart

Great to see the roving deangelo excuse making posse running roughshod in this thread

What's the difference between those who make excuses and those who just bitch about him? I don't see the need for hostility on either side, regardless his time here will be coming to an end soon no matter how many paragraphs people here type about him.

I think no qustion he would have 3-4 1200+ seasons but he would be done and retired by 2011.

Being stuck behind Deshaun Foster while outperforming him was frustrating.

Of course we had a zone run scheme which really is ideal for both Deangelo and JStew. Id like to see a return of zone blocking bc this power blocking s not doing anything.

Yes. What people don't realize is just how good he was...

*In 2006 and 2007 he steadily gained playing time and had decent numbers despite a bad pass game.

*In 2008 he got 1,500 yards, 18 tds and 5.5 ypc, while splitting time with another back and not even fumbling once. That's an all-time great season if you ask me.

*2009 was a minor miracle for him to get 1,000 yards given he missed 3 games and there was constant eight-man boxes due to the abysmal pass game.

*Despite injuries and an all-time bad offense, DeAngelo was on pace for around 950 yards.

*In 2011, he got over 830 yards, 7 TDs and 5.4 YPC with no fumbles despite splitting carries with two other players.

*In 2012 he got 730 yards splitting carries with four other players. In 2013 he got 840 yards splitting carries with three or four players.

Simply put if he was somewhere else from 2008-2011, he'd be a consistent Pro Bowler. Keep in mind he was one of only a few players to average 5 or more YPC over their first 5,000 carries, I do think splitting carries has helped his durability though. Williams has been a very good back for us and continues to be productive into his 30s because he was not overused like Turner in Atlanta or other backs who were used up.  I have always liked the idea of have 2 backs who complement each other so the whole one without the other isn't how most teams do things anyway.  We were just one of the first teams to do that.

On another note the whole 1000 yards yardstick is not that big a deal if the player gets the ball 250 times a season.  You only have to average 4 yards a carry to do that.  Williams even at his age had the same yards per carry as Frank Gore and Marshawn Lynch in 2013. And that is the better yard stick.  So his 4.8 yards a carry for his career is pretty outstanding and given he has over 1000 carries, it isn't cherry picking stats at this point.  He is still an explosive back who can take it to the house which he showed again last year.

I don't understand the hate for him just because Hurney gave him a huge contract and he took it.  Wouldn't any of you have done the same? And the whole this is an unimportant position is really naive. This may be a passing league but most teams still run the ball at least 40% of the time or more. Even the top passing team, Denver, ran the ball 461 times or 40% of the time. And in our case we ran the ball as much as we passed it.  So not only it is important to any team but it is very important to us.
