Along the Sidelines - Patriots Edition

Nov 19 2013 07:04 AM Zod Carolina Panthers
In what became one of the most exciting and inspiring game in years the Panthers ultimately defeated the New England Patriots,

The night began with fireworks during the national anthem. The entire evening was a dedication to the military and their families.

Posted Image

Earlier in the week I predicted Steve Smith, despite being covered by Talib, would make an impact in this game. Almost immediately 89 began to remind Talib why Smith is known as one of the toughest players in the game.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Talib, while helpless to stop Steve Smith resorted to trying to twist his ankle after the play. The result was a Patriots penalty which energized the crowd more than in recent memory.

Posted Image

In fact, the Patriots played the dirtiest football I have ever witnessed at Bank of America Stadium. After each play they were sure to get in extra kicks and hits.

The Panthers, however, play between the whistles and sometimes even offer a helping hand to the opposition once the play is over.

Cam Newton had, in my opinion, one of the best games of his career. Without his elusive running ability and sure handed passing, the Panthers would not have been in this game.

However, the thing that I liked most about Cam last night was his presence and leadership. Each week, Cam is getting more comfortable in his role as a leader on this team. Last night, he led a clutch game winning touchdown against a solid team.

Posted Image

Brandon Lafell doesn't seem to get much credit from the media, but this season he has turned out to be a legitimate threat in this league.

Posted Image

No one is happier about the emergence of 2nd and 3rd receiving threats more than Steve Smith, who understands while he may not be getting the number of catches the team is getting the wins. After the Tedd Ginn game winning touchdown Steve was sure to celebrate with Ginn. It almost looked like a passing of the torch...

Posted Image

Thomas Davis had a monster night. It would have been difficult to photograph a defensive play without him in the frame.

Posted Image

Luke Kuechly was in a chess match with Tom Brady all evening. For a second year player to go toe to toe with one of the greatest QB's of all time speaks volumes to Luke's ability before and after the snap.

Posted Image

During the last Patriots touchdown, you could feel the energy collectively let out of the stadium. Immediately there were concerns the game may be lost. How ever, Cam Newton was having none of that.

Posted Image

And put together a solid scoring drive.

Once the defense took the field for the last time the game was within reach. The Panthers defense harassed Tom Brady with the most pressure he had seen all night long,

Posted Image

In the end, Robert Lester intercepted a ball as Tom Brady cried foul.

Posted Image

After the game, Bill Bellichick was man enough to shake the hand of Ron Rivera...

Posted Image

but Tom Brady was no where to be found. In a completely classless move, Brady headed for the tunnels without shaking hands with Cam Newton.

But you know what? Cam wasn't even mad.

Posted Image

And even did a victory lap, administering high fives to his fans who stayed until the very end.

What a great night to be a Panthers fan.

RR on his weekly Sirius interview cited the chaos on the sideline following the Ginn TD. He was trying to stay stonefaced in the moment when Tolbert came up to him, put his hand on his chest and said " just checking for a pulse". Both had a good laugh.

I think Tolbert and Rivera are good friends. Buddy if mine said he has seen them out together at dinner several times together...with their wives.

Real players coach. I think we might have found a hidden gem with riverboat Ron. Let's see what else he's got in the playoffs

Cam was out of his mind last night. His toughness, leadership, and demeanor was off the chart the last two games: SF/NE. The man is growing and getting better in all phases of his game. Playing smart, showing leadership, and saying all the right things. Cam is owing the locker room.

This team is clearly coming together as a whole. The defense have been playing great football all season. The offense whom have started off to a slow start have finally start to click. Our defense took a little step back last night due to NE throwing short passes/screens. The offense came out and played lights out in a shooting war against Brady. We're clicking on all cylinders. GO PANTHERSNATION2013-2014!!!

What a great article and super pictures.Salute

1.  Why was Justin Long there?

2.  First time I've felt the stadium shake since the Tampa Bay game.

3.  I love the salute to the troops, but the singers at halftime were beyond a doubt horrid.  I thought I had transported into a bad 1950s musical.

Where the halftime singers a group of USO singers? If so they came by the VA hospital where I work today and performed for the Veterans. They were from NY and were excited about our game last night. The old guys loved that old music and were all smiles and sang along. Veterans are awesome.

I'm having a difficult time believing that BB didnt have a hand in Talib's actions last night. We all know that BB is a smart HC to not let things like that happen. But, when a player like Talib who have been so obedience with his time in NE all of a sudden shows flashback to his days in TB, I'm wondering to myself if BB actually had it planned out. To have Talib try to get in 89's head and take him out early. Clearly it backfired and for what BB did not know, the 2013 Carolina Panthers FEEDS off these type of energy. Once Smitty and Talib got into it and I saw Cam being pumped by it, I knew this game was going to belong to us. We have been overpowering and been the most physical team all season long. The last thing for BB to want to have is let these type of distraction take place vs. the Panthers. Ron Chico Riverboat Rivera have bred toughness and physicality, not like a Jim Harbaugh or Jim Schwartz who have "brainwashed" their players into believing that they are the toughest. That's the biggest difference between this team compared to the other 31 teams in the NFL.

Most huddlers on here know very well that I have been very critical of Brandon LaFell throughout the years. Well, I am glad to say that the man have finally earned my RESPECT this season. He have been crucial in some of our biggest games this season, i.e. SF and NE. This is the best I have seen this man play in his career. LaFell has matured and is grasping the game. His ability to get open and make huge catches keeping the chain moving have been obvious this season. This is what I have been preaching about for years, not the 1 catch for 91 yards TD but the ability to make catch after catch. I believe that LaFell is starting to fill that no.2 role for this team and soon enough he can be our Muhsin Muhammad 2.0.

Awesome photos!!

everyone seems taller than those guys... hahahahaha

The downward angle, fact that Cam is jumping and that he's much closer to the camera compared to the other guys distorts your perception.  Sort of like that picture from up above Lebron James looking down on Cam made Cam look like a midget.

I never saw the Lebron pic. sounds humorous tho

Great photos, Zod.

This looks like some kind of photoshop with a "Hobbit" theme.

Well Fisher is still butt hurt about the Panthers beat down of the Rams.

“I personally feel like the flag went down for a reason, and it looked like a foul to me,” Fisher said at his Tuesday news conference, via Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com. “So, that’s my opinion. Because I was not on the sideline, obviously, I can voice my opinion [without getting fined].” (PFT)

Well now that he's earned YOUR RESPECT he'll most certainly finally have that one last extra boost of motivation he so desperately needed to realize his dream of having his bust in Canton.

Hadn't noticed, but man...
