Scourton isn't signed (& apparently it's a thing)

These are just ripples of a move to redo the rookie deal schedule for second rounders and beyond. These kids coming out of college with NILs are even more money savvy than those before them and they've been working with agents for longer. And agents will always try to sweeten the deal for their clients, and therefore, themselves. -
Haven't heard a thing so far.

Second round picks should never get fully guaranteed contracts. They are not worth the risk. -

3rd should be probably half guaranteed. The failure rate is too high for full guarantee at that point in the draft. -
I don't particularly see Canales as someone that develops QBs that dropped into the late rounds, which is what you want as a backup. Not saying he can't, we've just never seen it. He's more of a bring a soon to be bust guy back from the dead kind of coach. In Seattle, he did nothing with Wilson, but got Geno playing up to his #39 pick potential, when everyone had him slated as a perennial back up. In Tampa he semi-resurrected Mayfield, who had played his ass off in LA after we traded him. He was brought here to make sure that Bryce didn't immediately wash out after we bet the farm to trade up for him, And let's face it, that's the direction Bryce was heading.

lmao you sound like me, I noticed the same a few weeks ago. I watch to see him hand catch like a hawk, but not like a lot of these fans hoping he fails, I want to see him improve. That was a trait I immediately noticed about Tetairoa after we drafted him, pure hands. Didn't surprise me when he said one of the guys he emulates is Larry Fitzgerald.

I said in the Shemar Stewart thread that I thought it was a good trade off, First round picks get fully guaranteed contracts and teams get the 5th year option. That's just fair! Maybe a sliding scale could work to avoid this type of shenanigans, 2nd round 90% guaranteed, 3rd round 80%... just my off season ramblings. -
The Panthers begged him to come back so Bryce can have his security blanket once again. Without AT this season, Bryce may have regressed. The young WRs may be the chunk yardage or 'shot' guys, but AT will the the 3rd down (4th down) chain mover. If there is a must have play, Bryce won't be looking for the young guys, he's looking for AT.

if Theilen can coach XL to be even 80% of the pass catcher that he himself is, how much $$ is that worth? Millions. Would I pay $5 million for XL be the guy who never drops a pass? Hell yes I would. All day. Not too long ago this team didn’t have any veteran leadership. Don’t be so quick to boot it out the door just to see what the new toys can do.

I think AT is going to be a rotational slot and not much more. On the outside, we have XL and TMac and Coker could play multiple roles (primarily a slot in 2024). With Renfrow likely to stick and Horn destined to be a ST/Slot, it seems that the overload at the slot position COULD push Coker into X and Z responsibilities--we shall see. But with Coker, Renfrow, and Horn, slot is pretty crowded, imo

It's hilarious is what it is. The second round getting rather small guaranteed contracts shouldn't be an issue. They did just do it for larger contracts in the first... -
It wouldn't surprise me if they have ideas for him with the organization after he retires. Watching the video the thing that stood out the most was Legette is "plucking" the ball out of the air. He was catching everything with his hands out and away from his body. If he can do that during the season we may just have something special there.

If all the 2nd round picks are holding out for the guarantee then it's obviously not the players themselves pushing for it at this point but the agents. Houston and Cleveland opened that door so now the agents want to see where that door closes. I don't blame the players in this situation. Especially if they participated in the OTAs even without the signed contract as Nick did. It shows he wants to play but he's doing what he's being told he must do for the good of all the players. The only thing is that he and the others cannot participate next week if they aren't signed. Hopefully, things will get worked out before then. -
T-Mac and the receivers working hard to make this year memorable for the Panthers fans!!

Coaches can't mentor, they coach, they are two entirely different things, and your coaches can also only do so many things at one time. When they're running a drill, the vets are pulling the young guys aside after their reps and giving tips while waiting for the drill to reset. You do also realize that for the most part, players are only around the coaches in the film room and on the field, coaches aren't in the locker room other than just before the game and at half. That's another place someone like Thielen shines, he's always been a pro's pro, he's going to take these young WRs under his wing and team them how you go about being an NFL player. That's not stuff coaches do, you NEED the vets for it and Thielen has embraced the role. When you have a guy who made his career on doing the little things right, and he is willing to be that vet mentor to a group of young WRs in their 1st or 2nd year that you hope to be your future 1-4, then he's worth every penny we're giving him this year.
-
Why in Minnesota? That's bizarre. Not like we have a vet WR who played his college ball and the majority of his NFL ball in Minnesota that a few room temperature IQ Panthers fans want to poo on who was obviously brought in every bit as much to mentor young WRs as much as he was to play who has still managed to put up decent numbers in awful offenses in the twilight of his career. Anyone who thinks the Panthers haven't gotten everything out of Thielen that they signed up for shouldn't be taken seriously.
