The aversion to tying up too much money in the ground game when it’s what’s winning us games is crazy to me. I get letting Rico walk if you think he’s easily replaceable but I don’t see many people arguing that, just applying an arbitrary salary cap based on what we think RBs are currently worth. I’d rather be stuck with Hubbard as an overpaid backup (not the worst one to have, mind you) than lose out on the most productive player on the offense personally.

Why do people keep saying things like “it’s not Young’s fault we spent so much to draft him”? Who cares if it’s his fault? Nobody is saying send him to jail or anything. People aren’t talking about blame for the decision to draft him, they’re talking about how bad he is as a QB and how we’d be much better with even an average QB. Pointing out that we sunk a lot of resources into drafting him isn’t invalidated because he didn’t make that decision himself. Doesn’t matter whose fault that was, he’s still not playing like a QB who was drafted at all, much less one that cost two firsts, two seconds and a #1 WR.

What to do about the Rico situation
Move the Panthers to Raleigh replied to Jmac's topic in Carolina Panthers
When did the “you can get a RB anywhere” thing start? It’s never really made sense to me. You don’t see guys running like Rico grow on trees - Today
-
I think we try to re-sign Dowdle at a rate that makes sense for the team. If the price gets too high then you move on. There’s no reason we can’t accommodate both running backs like we did with Williams and Stewart. After all, Young has yet to prove he can carry this team as a passer, and to be honest, he strikes me more as a 3,500 yard passer than a 4,500 yard passer. So to best support him we should have a strong running game and a 1 to 2 of Dowdle and Chuba could be the way to go.
-
Think you re-sign Dowdle and you attempt to trade Hubbard during the draft or something.
-
I under estimated the OL and thought they would be our downfall. Protection issues, general Chinese fire drill stuff because they were shuffled around and undermanned. Basically. But that didn’t happen. So great job OL.
-
There’s no reason the offense can’t accommodate them both. We had Williams and Stewart as a 1-2 punch, so it’s possible that Dowdle and Chuba can be used as a 1-2 punch. We are a run first team since we don’t have a prolific passer under center, so I would at having a strong run game with two quality backs is a positive. Before the Packers game, they had split the carries fairly evenly. I think unless one gets hot, we’ll probably see them split carries.

I was not really upset with you, just annoyed a little and not in the mood 10 minutes after a win. That was pretty a good win. You may have noticed my tone was a little different with someone I Was upset with lol. -
Wondered if I was only one noticed how his runs show no emotion and little excitement. He has the world by the tail sure hope he figures out how to hold on.
-
I would say it more like nothing he did today was changing minds. He has 8 more games. We can ‘count the votes’ then.
-
Interesting to say the least. Thanks Go Panthers!!!

Those last two plays before the last FG, we could have burned them so hard - but it is risky with even a better QB. But not sure they would have used that strategy against a better QB. In any case Rico had no hope of breaking through that.
-
One more win and it matches Wilks’ win total, he was the leader of the last 5-6 years. You have to go back to Tepper’s first year where Rivera won 7 to beat it. He won 5 the year he was fired.

I watched a clip of all the offensive snaps. Young threw into some tight coverage and the guys made some plays on the ball. He also really missed some throws. He has this middle of the field thing into a tight window pretty good and made three or four nice plays but he was just too inconsistent with his accuracy especially in the red zone. Today and in general. That Int where people were chastising Legette for ‘not fighting through the coverage’, he in no way could have gotten to that ball. IMO. I think he thought it was going to hit the ground and didn’t see the defender coming for it. But not sure what he could have done. The camera doesn’t show the spatial relationship very well, I think the ball was way off. maybe 6 feet or more off target to the inside of the field. Rico is a beast. And a very good receiver. That was my impression without dissecting and rewinding, just letting the video roll. I did rewind the int two or three times to look at that one. -
My biggest issue with keeping Darnold, which I felt we should have done, is we would still have Fitterer. And everything that came with that. I think Morgan is going to be good. Baker, just did not play well at all here. Not sure what else we were supposed to take away from it at the time. That’s my short ‘I don’t want to argue about it’ take.
-
Even if we somehow make the playoffs we will be one and done so fast. Seattle, Rams, TB, Panthers, Detroit and Philly are all better than us.
-
He is, but I think he's either still coning back from his injury or playing with a loss of confidence since coming back. Rico is better either way but early in the year Chuba looked more decisive and stronger than he does now
-
The Packers sold out to stop the run entirely too, and we couldn't risk a sack or interception. It frustrated me but Canales knows his team well
-
I think in this case in the fourth quarter the game was clearly out of reach, so I agree. But I do think other times players will refuse to go out and you don't want to foster an atmosphere of giving up. But down 30... Yeah...
-
He would have gotten caught at the 15.
-
Canales is in most critical point of his tenure

There's very clear improvement in the team and coaching staff and hopefully we do see that built on thru the second half of the season -
I think TB probably wins our division but who knows. As to you guys, I think you still have a solid shot. I get the concern but you're still on top of your division now, and I wouldn't be surprised if that continues. You'll probably win 3 of 4 vs Vikings and Bears, beat NYG, and at least one of Philly, Denver, and Baltimore. I think the division may come down to the 2nd game vs the Lions.

I wouldn’t say Lafluer is a good coach. He has a 3-5 playoff record as our coach and Rodgers couldn’t win another title under him. Love has regressed under him too and our offense seems to be getting worse. You guys have a better coach. -
They have severe limitations. 29th passing game, no pass rush and are still finding ways to win. I'm encouraged by what I've seen. This season has been a big step forward.
