2025-26 First Goal Thread

Players these days don’t need the pay day of the Pro Bowl. Even the lower paid players are earning enough money to not want to risk an injury playing in a pointless game. Last year didn’t the winners take home around $100k and the losers around $50k? Sounds nice to most of us, but to them, I can understand why some turn it down or half heartedly it if they play.

Very intrigued how Morgan and Canales handle the offseason

MY HOPES. First, the ickey situation is super unfortunate. I think try to get a reasonable extension that allows to cut if his recovery is bad. Option being if Lewis or Hunt get hurt he can kick inside, however I think its reasonable to think with his lack of progress, and prognosis of that injury he may never be a LT again at the NFL level. Nymen should return hopefully as well as brady and let the best LT win. We HAVE to cut X. Its not even an option at this point. Guy is simply put not an NFL receiver. He can return kicks and stuff, but as one of our top 3 options, its no longer an option. Best I'd say is see if someone is willing to give peanuts for him, if not, just cut bait or keep him at best on the bottom of the roster. Kinda addressed in first, but Icky could be a long term option at guard...maybe depending on how his recovery from injury is. Try to resign mays, if not I'd be ok with taking a Center in the draft and sigh...letting corbett maybe play the position. LB, Get Rozeboom back, maybe not as a starter but definitely worth bringing him back and also Im a guy of the mind when guys perform well, rewards like attempting to retain go a ways amongst players to grow a positive reputation. I always say, you cant have all pros everywhere, but continue developing Wallace, draft a LB on day one or 2, and try to find high upside players who might be better utilized in our system vs where they came from. Chuba, definitely rely on him coming back, if not see if Etienne or Brooks take off. RB is not a position to pay a lot for in the NFL these days, utilize the depth we already have and grow from that. If you do anything in FA, its a similar Rico signing, someone falls into your lap and you can pay a prove it contract. LASTLY, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, the big thing I want to see happen is a run at a big time Pass rusher this offseason. I think we'll treat this as win now mode although I think our "win now" still is maybe at best an NFC Divisional...MAAAYBE championship game run. That said, the rumors of Trey Hendrickson do make sense, although personally I'm skeptical on how well he'll perform in a 3-4 as opposed to 4-3. Also wouldnt be surprised if there were significant trade proposal for Maxx Crosby. We will see though, a move like that would mark a huge sign that we are attempting to win right now. -

This is what I'm talking about...take out Ty Simpson. *Mesidor EDGE Miami is #27. -
I’d be interested in the number of injuries in these studies and how many starting calibre players. Percentages on small numbers are always misleading. Id also be interested in what they deem as “performance” as that’s potentially very subjective. Or how they are measuring any explosive loss. Not trying to dismiss this in any way but it needs a heck of a lot more context than percentages

This Bryce Guy (General BY Discussion)

That…. is truly depressing -
I can’t see someone with McDermott’s record having to take a step down to DC to earn another shot. He’ll likely take a year off like Vrabel and McCarthy, then have the pick of jobs next season. Generally speaking the HCs that take a step back are those that need to rebuild their reputation (eg Kingsbury, McDaniel, Flores), or accept that they aren’t HC material as they’ve ‘failed’ a couple of times.

Even though it's not a reach at #19 and there are positions available we need, I'm not necessarily swooning over the guys in this range. It's sort of a 'void' area to me. That being said, I would entertain a trade back. Why? A few guys I think could help the team are a little further back in round 1 and we shouldn't reach. I really like a lot of players with second and early third round grades right now. We only have one pick each in both rounds. Picking up an extra pick on day 2 would be huge and still get a guy we need without reaching in round 1. -

That's not what you said. You shoehorn yourself into OT and LB in the 1st and 2nd. This roster has plenty of need. We don't need to feel the need to force anything. -

Yeah, I think the BPA is pretty defensible regardless of specific position. -

Looking forward to the royal rumble. Hoping to see Y2J and maybe Enzo come back today! -
No idea where he’s projected to go but I’ve been hearing a lot of great stuff about Jacob Rodriguez. Apparently has a knack for turnovers and his peanut punch is nasty https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZThyGo4Kh/

Per my post earlier, I got me thinking about miller burns and Orlov. So I looked up this year’s stats. Miller is clearly worse than Burns and Orlov. Should have just resigned Burns on the count that he doesn’t get hurt and plays every game. Edit* sorry for the light shade of the text, not sure how to fix it. 1. Ke'Andre Miller (Carolina Hurricanes - D) Following his move to Carolina, Miller has been a top defender for the Hurricanes. • 2025-26 Stats (approx. through late Jan 2026): 4 goals, 15 assists, 19 points (44 games). • Performance: He has been a consistent top-pairing option, averaging over 22 minutes of ice time per game, with a plus-minus of +2. • Status: Active. Recently missed a game due to a lower-body injury in late December 2025, but quickly returned. 2. Brent Burns (Colorado Avalanche - D) After departing Carolina, the veteran defender signed a one-year contract with the Colorado Avalanche for the 2025-26 season. • 2025-26 Stats (approx. through late Jan 2026): 8 goals, 17 assists, 25 points (52 games). • Performance: Continues to be productive at age 40, leading with a +25 rating in this period. • Status: Active. 3. Dmitry Orlov (San Jose Sharks - D) After departing Carolina, Orlov signed with the San Jose Sharks. • 2025-26 Stats (approx. through late Jan 2026): 1 goal, 22 assists, 23 points.

In order of preference, LB, OT, Edge in the first and any of those plus DT, TE, CB, Safety, IOL in the second. That enough options to not reach. -

Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia, wonder when they're going to have the Super Bowl in Saudi Arabia?? -
The blue line IS Rods strength. It has been THE reason the team looks like a mess at times. I do agree that if they can just play with the same players over and over, it will be better and go back to really limiting other teams grade As in front of our goalies.

Yeah I was there so I don’t post a lot either when I’m at the games. Miller I don’t think was bad actually last game EXCEPT 1 min into the game he had an awful turnover right in front of Bussi where the cross bar bailed us out. Miller has been ok. Like Chris said, he gets lazy and turns it over waaaaayy too much. It’s no secret, I’m not a fan and think he is the worst Dman out of our 6. Can’t do the powerplay and with his turnovers, I get nervous each time he is on the ice. Honestly, I’d take Burns and Orlov over him. Definitely burns. ghost wasn’t great until he was. I expected rust from him. Now let’s talk about Boom. He was downright bad last game. For some reason, he still won’t body a guy and would rather play the puck. I thought Rod was going to bench him for the 3rd. But, he is young and will learn.
-
I never said he wasn't wrong. I'm simply pointing out that Miller is the only guy being consistently lambasted. And, what Moneypuck doesn't mention about the 76 giveaways is the fact that Miller has been paired on all 3 lines and with every blue liner on the team thanks to injuries. The blue line has been a mess all year and it almost feels like it's coming back together.

Apparently it’s Main Street Sports in trouble running the RSNs, with FanDual having only naming rights. What a mess. https://www.sportsmediawatch.com/2026/01/fanduel-sports-network-collapse-next-week-or-april/

David Newton's Panthers Free Agency Preview Dancy Party
rebelrouser replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Good chance? He will miss part of the season guaranteed and may never get back to his previous level. That makes LT a really big hole. -
I've considered that too. If he loses some range and agility he could still potentially move inside. Our guards are aging. I do think we need to be forward thinking at OT with Moton's age and Icky's injury. But Icky is under contract next year and we'll have better jnsight into his recovery than anyone else. I'm just hoping he can get back in the field in the latter half of next season so we can get a real evaluation of him in actual games. I'm not ready to throw Icky out right now but I do think relying in him as a long-term answer after this injury would be a big risk. This was the downside of backing into the playoffs with no real chance of making any noise. There was talk right after the injury of Icky dealing with some lingering injury issues down the stretch and you have to wonder if those lingering injuries contributed to the big one. When the body is compensating for an injury you're going to be more prone to another injury occurring. Backing into the playoffs with a losing record may have cost us our long-term LT.
