So, just what is it that makes a QB "elite"?
The Lobo replied to Brooklyn 3.0's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think what makes a qb elite is when every week you think your team has a chance to win because of your qb. No matter who they play, they always make you feel like you have a chance. I have not gotten that feeling once while watching Bryce. -
Great point! The quotes from O'Connell about teams failing rookie Qbs and the one about how you coach them after 3 picks and a loss were really interesting. To me, an idiot with a keyboard, it means NFL teams need to be patience if they are going to have quality QB play. So bringing me to Bryce, is there some benefit to being patient. I know it's not a particularly popular opinion around here, and even I am having a hard time wrapping my head around it. Most QBs, when benched lose their confidence. It takes a LONG time to get it back. Bryce on the other hand was benched, and came back a different player. I feel like that's worth a lot more than the physical talents of a guys like AR15... I think Bryce has the mental make up to be a good NFL QB. His problem will always be his tools. Now it's on coaching to work around that. Bryce is more physically gifted than late years Drew Brees (low bar, I know). While I'm content to see what happens this season, there's a small part of me that says...maybe we should see what grows? (let me duck and hide from the well earned vitriol the Panthers have earned). Then again, I agree that some guys get it while others just don't. I'm still hoping for the Panthers and Bryce to find success this season. But if not, I won't be too surprised if the plug is pulled and there is a restart.

Smitty goes off on CLT on WFNZ

I think some of you are just still getting on him for failing to drag the toe. He's being grossly misused, and Bryce has been a pitiful excuse for a QB the first couple of games, so X may be discouraged. He's still trying though. I think that's been evident, even though some argue differently. -
We used to be spoiled at the position, but no more. Shaq didn't exactly continue the streak of excellence, but Shaq's worst day appears to be better than any 'backer on the current roster's best day.
-
Also, now that I think about it, Etienne has flashed a few times. Worth being considered for up/watch lists.
-
The Shaq slander is crazy. Acting like underselling him twice as much as he was overpaid does not bring balance to the force.
-
After Manning's rookie season, where he threw a record 28 interceptions, and guided the Colts to a 3-13 mark, surely spent that offseason watching true crime shows on Netflix, playing GTA and just chilling.

Bills: had a bunch of horrible years Packers: were really really bad in the mid 80s Lions: historically bad, like, forever. Look at them now Dolphins: only team to go 16-0. This week? Bottom of the barrel New England: 132 years of wins under Bill+Tom. Since then, horrible Tampa: laughing stock until their uniform/stadium redesign point is that winning can be cyclical. We all wants wins NOW but we may have to wait for all the pieces to fall into place

Shaq was the new James Anderson. whatever folks want to call that.

You see, this is why I'm more critical of Dave Canales

John Fox and Ron Rivera were both kinda fat and ugly. -
*badum tsss*
-
I kinda understand going for 2 more if you have the personnel or a play that really might work. Dave has neither of those.
-
Didn't like it but understood it. What I really didn't like was the lack of agressivness at the end of the first half. Down that many points you don't play conservative. Even if they don't score, the Cardinals probably don't either. I literally had to walk away at that point I was so pissed.
-
I can understand the logic. Going for 2 made sense the first time considering how far down we were. Then you don't get it and are basically forced to go for it the second time, too. Way down the list of concerns we have, IMO.

Rozeboom needs to get better before he's a JAG.
-
The successful teams in the NFL right now have one thing in common: Patience. Not just with their QB, but with every facet of the program. There are going to be successes and failures, but no one panics and makes reactive decisions. Look at the Eagles, the Bills, the Ravens, the Packers, and hell, even the (newly successful) Lions. All of them showed patience with their QB's growth, let their coaches do their jobs, have drafted well, developed their own players, and plugged holes in their roster and organization with players and situations that made sense. That's what we need. And if that isn't what we have now, we need to make moves to get it there. If that means they need to blow it up to start over, then blow it up and start it over the right way. If that means to change their approach from top to bottom, change it now. But the blueprint of success is out there in the league, teams just think they know better, or they don't have the discipline to follow through.

X was drafted too early, needs refinement and is playing out of position. We knew this. What's the issue? Personally, I think he will be fine. Just needs more time.
-
Rozeboom is a JAG. Shaq was most definitely not a JAG.
-
To be fair, Shaq was a JAG.
-
To be fair, you also told us that Kawann Short and Shaq Thompson were JAGs but I also understand that the victory laps feel good when they happen.

Chasing points will get ya beat by the points you were chasing. Kick the FG and extra point. If you need the 2pt conversion late, go for it.

I tried to tell people on Moehrig. I tried to tell y'all that he was a safety straight out of the '80s who was basically an undersized LB who can't cover his own shadow. I tried to tell people that Legette was a one year wonder in college bailed out by a super senior year that wouldn't have happened had it not been for COVID who wasn't a natural WR. I tired to tell people that Bryce had no NFL level physical tools and his style of play wouldn't translate to the NFL. I just can't understand how a guy who just casually watches the sport and hasn't actively played it in nearly 30 years can see this stuff when our "professionals" can't. That doesn't make any sense. I get it, every misses in the draft and in FA occasionally. But a lot of our misses are of the "well duh, how did you not see that???" variety and that's just inexcusable.

Only the Panthers can draft someone (JT0) who's nickname is "Man Hands" and he develops a drop problem in year two. Only the Panthers draft a raw athlete (XL) and then don't know how to develop him, causing him to regress in year two. Only the Panthers, with a Linebacker GM, draft a raw linebacker (TW) and have no clue how to develop him. We have a coaching problem here. I haven't even touched on Bryce's lack of development and Canales not seeming to know how to call plays for him in year 2 either. We gots a long way to go. There's a few bright spots to watch still, TMac, Cade Mays back at Center, Chuba, DBrown, Horn, but man there is just no "middle class" talent on the roster.

If you put "X" player on a great team, he could be good.
